Shared damage

i was thinking back to a stock feature where the 8472 frigate got shot and the battleships that were combined with it for the big gun special (bio pulse conduit i believe) got some damage shared among them.

maybe something like that could be adapted for fleetops. similar to the old gensup shield recharge where a ship (no idea which ship could get it or for which race) supports another ship somehow, like a power transfer or something. that gives the other ship a boon of some kinda, shields/weapons/engines there's plenty of choice. but if either ship gets hit, both take some damage, to indicate they are joined.

Energy surge along the power transfer beam? Sounds acceptable. Someone always seems to send technobabble through beams...

another thing i was thinking of, have a ship extend shields around another ship that has weak shields. gives less overall shield hitpoints, but some is better than none.

kinda copies the centaur special though.

What is the difference between shared damage, extended shields and a dogfight range shield recharger?

One is a concept, one is a name to call it by, and the last is totally unrelated to the first two.
