Since section 31 will not be a federation avatar (SF intelligence will be the 3rd rumored avatar) i think it would be interesting to have a map object with section 31 altered designs.

J24 repair starbase 1.1 Download, Starfleet Command III Ships

It may give the opportunity to introduce ship classes which otherwise were too old to be considered.

Basic ship design:

Miranda class

Advanced designs:

Oberon class, USS Pegasus variant

The Furious + Spectre class
The Starfleet Museum - Furious Class and Spectre Class

Old designs but with some very sneaky specials: cloak, hull eating microbes, mines etc.

Thoughts/ideas?

I kinda like this, especially since it would give access to ships you wouldnt otherwise see; I do love the Miranda :D For those like myself using Map Editor to create custom 'campaign' levels (the main reason I liked Empire Earth), this would be a great addition.

i like this but section 31 dont have only old ships , they can have some cool new ships or stolen ships from other races , so just take any ship paint it in black and you will have sec 31 ship

The whole idea of refitting old designs is to stay off the sensor grid (i was about to say radar) so shiny new designs don't sound like a good idea.

The reason why i included the Furious and Spectre is that they could be the TMP counterparts of the defiant and Remore.

i think the furious and spectre look horrible.

i also dont think s31 would have their own ships. they dont have crews full of leather wearing officers. s31 has very few personnel. they would operate undercover as part of a starfleet ship's crew. they probably have at least 1 admiral at starfleet command who can deal with reassignments to get their agens where needed. or maybe a captain or two who works with them on occasion. admiral ross is a perfect example, not a member, but supports them enough to get their people where they need to go and make sure they get access to everything they need.

the most s31 dudes we saw in 1 place ever was 3. on sloan's holodeck. that ship was likely a normal starfleet ship, that had a supportive captain. all sloan used was transporters and holodecks. any officer (or person pretending to be an officer) could use those systems and fiddle with computer records to cover it up.

s31 may operate a runabout (or alien equivalent small ship) or two, ships that are not easily missed and ships that could fly around without much attention.

You mentioned that when i proposed them as warp-in some time ago.

A discussion about how much personnel S31 could assemble is for another time. I chose S31 because it could/would use old designs to avoid drawing attention and the possibility to add "less federation like" specials to the vessels they build.

It can be a star fleet intelligence shipyard and that could explain the use of older designs, but that would close the door for some of the more devious specials such as cloak.

starfleet intel i could get behind, they always seemed a little more out there and well known. they could have a number of people working for them. i still dont quite see them fielding whole fleets. so maybe the sfi avatar builds normal starfleet ships as usual, but can build some sfi ships, with sfi crews, or crews that have many sfi senior officers but standard redshirts.

Old designs like Miranda and newer designs like the Norway with alternate specials e.g. Sensor overload and Engine overload.

Perhaps a special which introduces a computer virus in the enemy vessel for either disabling subsystems or relaying sensor data.

i think a modified norway stands up as a good idea for a sfi hybrid crew ship. its not huge, its sensible and practical. and it has advanced systems to support the goodies sfi avatar would bring to the table. they obviously wouldnt be the avatar for big guns. norway is also fast to run away and be cowardly. a modded remore might be a good choice for a late game sfi ship.

Yeah a SFI norway would have to rely on its wits to survive. The regular Norway as a combat ship (although awesome) is a bit odd.

the regular norway is a support ship which can fight. kinda like the leahval. i dont think its terribly odd.  it gets by thanks to its systems. if you took away the 2 second specials it wouldnt be a great choice.

Section 31 may have operatives aboard starfleet-vessels, but don't appear to have vessels on their own (since they don't have an official standing, they wouldn't fly around in big ships with crews entirely being operatives).

They probably would use (probably largely automated) ships of their own if they felt they absolutely needed them, though Starfleet existing at all would mean it's very rare they'd need to take the risk. Something like the Federation holoship would be much more likely than real starships like Defiants or Akiras.

A small, personal fleet for when direct action is needed is more the Tal Shiar approach.

TNG mentioned that Tal'Shiar sometimes take command of romulan vessels out of their regular fleet, however I never heard of dedicated Tal'Shiar-vessels :(
