Well, there's no saying whether or not Shinzon commisioned more of them on Rhemus (?)... or if the designs were stolen ... and since we've already discussed using Picard's or other such ships without the knowledge of whether they will be destroyed before a future version of Star Trek comes out....  :ermm:
There can be a lot of loopholes to allow such cool ships to play a role in Flops.

Better put, what would you prefer to see as mercenary ships?

It would be interesting what the staff would define as a mercenary-ship.

Basically I think we should imagine those ships as non-military or non-government ships.
What reason could you imagine that one of the super-powers would give up one of its ships?
That's why I think the Scimitar is not what we should expect mercenary-ships to be. (Unless someone got his hands on one or build one himself.)

I assume we'll have to expect smaller vessels originally built by non-player races.

In this case... what about mercenary races (can't remember any at the moment), I know startrek had a few that would fight for tribute soo.... this sort of leaves it open to think that some high ranking officials who are greedy, sell some ships--say norexans--to the highest bidder, which just so happens to be a pirate consortium of sorts....  :ermm:

I think the appeal with the Scimatar is that it is this big bad ship which is a very worthy prize. Why buy weak smaller vessels if you can make your own and replace them easier (unless their is some sort of crucial advantage such as time or money is less for the mercenary types)

Well, I assume you'll simply have to buy the mercenary ships then and that's it.
I don't think that there will be something like a mercenary-yard, where you can build every mercenary-ship available.
So, maybe I could even live with a Scimitar-class (Does it have a name?) mercenary-ship for what reason ever you might make up to justify this brutal murder concerning game-balance.  :sweatdrop:
As for mercenary-races (There might be yards then, I think) I could imagine the Ferengi, maybe Bajorans, the Maquis and maybe even Cardassians. Or at last: Everything the Ferengi ever got their hands on.  :D

We might even consider a merger over the idea of derelicts. Mercenary ships would leave a husk (shhhh... no CnC3 talk :pinch:) which could be captured over and over again but never destroyed.

Meaning as soon as your shiny Scimitar-mercenary-variant got frakked up, your enemy would be free to capture it himself?
Sounds like some kind of capture-the-mercenary-ship/flag.  :sweatdrop:
Maybe I got you wrong. (Someone who didn't speak even a word of my native language or any other language I speak tried three times to get a mobile-contract from me today. I'm not quite sure if I understand anything at all after this day...  )
Basically after a ship got destroyed, it should be gone, even mercenary-ships. So say we all.. uhm.. I.  :innocent:

No, you understood me well enough... I just think that mercenary ships, are well, just that. Derelict in this case equals they abandoned your cause! Unless there becomes the option to have multiple Scimatar types, than I think anyone who gets the ship should darn well try and protect it as well as use it (the fear of having it used on yourself should be .... delicious).

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the whole mercenary aspect though... after all it could be introduced as where we just buy ships outright, or it could be we capture them and they cost credits....

Your thoughts?

Well... don't think of yesterday
But a fun-map "Capture-the-Scimitar" could be nice though  :sweatdrop:

I've always imagined the FO-mercenary-idea as something like the mercenaries in Warcraft III. So you would be completely right about how it could work in FO.
I'd like that.
