Rommies style in late game

Post ideas and suggestions on new features or improvements here.

Hi everybody!
As many players know: Cloak is mostly senseless in late game. If the game lasts that long, every base and oupost has sensor stations, the borg are sensor-noding the whole map, and there are canaverals all araound. Thus the romulans are reduced to to that boring slaughterhouse-play with mostly norexans and some supporters. This is not romulan!

I would ask if there can be some special, that knocks out all tachyon scanners for a certain time, to do "sneaky stuff" in endgame too. What about a ship, that can tachyon-pollute an area?

Cloak is useless for attacking a protected base, but you can still ambush a fleet on the way to your base and use them for scouting. The 'Tachyon Pollute' idea seems like the report from the Starbase's, just a lower range.

yup. i had suggested a specific station that pollutes with tachyon AND allows ships to fire while cloaked for a specific period of time with a countdown that appears in the same place as the "pause" indicator in mp games, as a form of Romulan ultimate weapon - if u rmember my thread...

no one liked the idea... go figure  :crybaby:

:D

As tachyons are quicker than light, they are not restricted to area, but to direction. Reports on cloaked vessels are impossible at that time or only partially functioning. The system is meant to be the same as todays radar-jammers.

I'know, that you can still ambush fleets in end game, but this is a little less than I expect of romulans, who can cross the neutral zone with one bird of pray and take out Sector Z-6 Outposts. I don't expect the FO-rommies really be that effective, but just waiting for a opposing fleet to cross and be ambushed than, is just not romunan enough. Additionally a clever enemy always takes a scout with him to avoid that problem.

PS @ serpicus: But I do! To nerf that "ultimate", you may not fire under that cloak. Modern computers can reconstruct the ships position from the beams/torps origin.

Only the Romulan scout can detected cloaked ships, they removed it from all other races scouts.

Right, but there is still that all-time available tachyon scan of the bases, which just costs a lottle energy, if I remember correctly.

sounds fair.. never liked firing while cloaked anyway

but we do need something that brings out the romulan aspect.

however, if we do use tachyon flood(I prefer the word Surge), then the feds or the side that is subject to the surge should be notified on the minimap with a notification with a unique text - like tachyon surge detected.
they will then be left to decide whether to divert ships or consider it a bluff :) will allow for typical romulan gameplay.

And if we are moving way from the station - then in keping with Redemption 2 I recommend we include this as a veteran ability for the D'deridex.
It will bring the D'deridex back to relevance...
:)

Since we're working on veteran ships this could be a cool D'Deridex ability.

I better put this in before someone else thinks of it... What if cloaking devices and cloak detection tools had "levels"; then you do research (with increasing costs each time) to increase that level. You would start with "level 1" cloaking devices and cloak detection tools. A given level of cloak detection tool would find all cloaked ships with cloaking devices that have a level below the cloak detection tools level. What this would do is reflect the "intel wars" for a large period of time before and during TNG, where the federation would develop cloak detection then the romulans would improve their cloaking devices against it.

I think they had levels in stock, but the concept was entirely unused.

They had odf commands in each detection odf that suggest possible levels, at least.

Seems likes it has be sugested before somewhere...

The weapons themselves must be cloaked as well because it would be pretty simple to just fire where the weapon was coming from...

I suggested it when I first got here :P . No one paid attention to me back then... :crybaby:

Nayway, cloak isn't sensless in late-game if you're inconspicuous about it.
