I'd just like to request perhaps that, in the interest of getting the Sad Little Saber SOME Risner airtime ...
That the Saber have 15 defense no matter what Avatar you pick.
I love the little Saber as of 3.1.2. The tiny ECM + hyper-impulse actually makes it a great skirmisher against races that use a lot of pulse's or torpedoes like the Borg, Romulans, Klingon, or Feds even. They act as a great ship to draw fire as they are real quick with HYPE and have a great dodge chance. They have a use! Yay!
Sadly, they are just too fragile with 12 defense to even fill out that role well for Risner. Is it possible that she could get the same bonus to it that Mayson gets in order to give it some use? If not, perhaps she can get a small offense boost or something.
Just a little something to make the Risner Saber something more than a waste of resources.

Weeee, yes, I'd like Risner's Saber to be a bit more attractive

I'd rather Risners Sabre gets an offensive bonus.

I wouldn't mind that either, but I was thinking about what the job of the Saber is and it definitely isn't to KILL shit

However, it's GREAT now at drawing torpedo fire away from more expensive vessels because it still has the lowest defense of the Fed ships (and thus draws auto-fire from ships not being micro'd). This is great because that way a lot of firepower is wasted automatically targeting the dodging Saber! Also, being a long range unit, if you are keeping it at least NEAR it's max range while it draws fire, it can easily escape once it's shields are down and go repair

Yeap. I'd love to see the saber get some kind of an increase. You could lump it in with the intrepid and akira or something, or maybe the ECM suite is more effecient.

True, though offensive increases is the standard for Risner's Antares ships.

It may be the standard, but my point is that it doesn't support the JOB of the Saber
.
EDIT: To maybe go along with Tyler's idea, it could be possible, if the Risner Saber should get increased Offense instead of Defense, to make it's job be a low-level bombardment Destroyer.
A possible change to make it that way could be to replace the Risner Saber's phaser (which always hits) with a torpedo and increased offensive value instead. This would create a PURPOSE for the Saber as a long-range, light torpedo bombardment vessel that is still at defence of 12 and therefore very weak to interceptors like the B'rel and such but can at least dish out a little bit more damage than the Mayson Saber (a more defensively oriented vessel). The torpedo's misschance helps prevent it from being a kiter as early destroyers will still eat it alive if they get in range
.
You know, you always just have to think about WHY a ship is what it is and WHY it's used

Part of its job is protecting your expansions and hit-and-run on early enemy expansions, which includes destroying/damaging freighters before the enemy arrives. Sounds like a good use for offensive increase.

That does make me think that a Risner Veteran Sabre should have a double-shot phaser like Mayson's platform.
Would make there be a reason to vet one.

At the risk of dragging it off topic... by taking a look at the Veteran Tooltip we find that it has "Type XV Phaser: Deals up to double damage."

I think its a good idea, with 12 defense , the Risner's saber is a bit weak i think... maybe against a Bird of Prey, this ship needs that bit more defense value , or a bit lower costs

The LR comes in handy, but maybe a nastier little sting with the pulse gun upon promotion, or even get it earlier.
