Returning to the Uplink

So another idea I had for the Borg.

What if you could change which modules you had after you built a ship?  What I mean is you could go back to the chassis-uplink as if you were building a new ship.  The reason for doing this is so that if you have a lot of interception scubes, for example, you could switch them out and make them regen or beam modules.  You wouldn't have to pay the chassis cost, just the module cost, and you could even have some of that refunded when you go back to the module selection screen.

This would give some more "adaption" options for ships.  It could be designed in such a way that it's useful, but not cost effective if you do it all the time or with every vessel.  It would also be a way to heal a ship for a price, but your ship is also vulnerable while it "rebuilds" itself.  This way, if you don't build the modules you want for a ship, you can go back and correct it later for a cost.

Discuss!

sounds good. maybe only allow a maximum of 1 module to be changed at a time as changing modules is hard.

Nice idea.  Its another one of those ideas that would cause people to use more mixed fleets against the borg, which would be nice.  If your opponent spams Dom B8's then if you react well and reconfigure quickly (because presume reconfiguration will take some time to actually "build") then you can adapt and the spammer is then screwed.

If you go in with a mixed fleet in the first place then the Borg won't have much use for reconfiguring.

After all, if you read the FO blurb (ie: readme) it says the game encourages mixed fleets.

A more detailed explanation of what I'm thinking on the process would be similar to how you place a dode relay.  So you have your ship, you press the "build" button, place the uplink footprint on the map, which instantly turns itself into an uplink with the same chassis (module selection screen), and some of your resources are refunded.  You select all the modules just like you would if it were a new ship, and it builds just like a new ship from that point on.

The upside is you can switch out your modules to adapt to a new situation, and "obsolete" configurations could be changed into something more useful.  This also heals the vessel for a cost, so it would be a good way of semi-quickly repairing borg ships, although most borg ships take about 1 minute to build.

The downside is that it still ends up costing money to do this, money that could be put into new ships or research or miners or what-have-you.  Also, it leaves ships vulnerable, so if your opponent was scouting or tracking that ship with a cloaked scout, you could see it vulnerable and attack it while the uplink is rebuilding the ship.  That could be really important if someone tries to do it with a sphere or a cube or something.

So that's a more detailed explanation of how this works out in my head. ^-^

One extra request - can you guys make it possible when you have an uplink and select your ship type you want to build can you make it possible to go back to the ship type selection screen because I often find I build an uplink, then a ship, dont have enough resources go away and expand and by the time i remember my uplink I have the resources for a better and large ship class. Also sometimes happen that I mis-click ship types and allthose resources are directly down the drain :(
