People, i think good idea to put the Warp-out / Retreat ability to make more real like Star Trek Series.
A fleet lose to other fleet, some ships from the loser side survive and can't win the battle, so these ships tend to warp-out.
Do you agree???

I think I suggested this idea awhile back. Even if it's not used in FO it would be really handy for modders.

I like FO just the way it is right now. Very strategic. However if they were to implement this, it should be costly for the person doing a warp-out like costing a certain amount of minerals so people don't just spam it so much.

If anything just reset the warpin timer

Perhaps a new feature attached to the SFC? Requires an additional and expensive research and adds a new button to SFC. For an additional resource and supply cost, you can click the button on the SFC, select a ship, and it will warp back to the SFC. This would be very useful for saving important ships, especially the more useful warpins.
I think this would be really cool, but equally difficult to implement without giving the Feds too much of an advantage. Feds are already very forgiving of anything short of a massive blunder, and given that most Fed wins are via Fedroll, that one ship can make a huge difference (not that this isn't the case with any other faction, esp. Roms).

if that feature had a delay upon activating it on a ship, a duration in which it is immovable,it might be as risky as a normal retreat.

Why would going to warp require special research, materials or supply? It's a defining function of all space travel in the Trek universe. Of course the problem is, there's no way to implement such a feature without reinstating normal warp. Unless you want to give it ridiculous costs or penalties that make 0 sense given Trek cannon, like the above posts.
Gameplay does need to trump cannon to some degree, but when you start putting in such silly restrictions - you're not even making Trek anymore. It's just a generic space based RTS at that point.
I was never a fan of FO removing warp drive and map height, the mod is great but both of those things were part of what made the original games stand out in the RTS scene. I guess I can understand why though, given the slow pace of development FO has always had they undoubtedly just don't want to put forth the effort to actually make such novel mechanics balanced.

Yeah, because warp was implemented so well in stock A2... "Captain, we're outrunning their photon torpedoes, but they keep hitting us with their phasers!"
In canon, ships had to travel in warp for days and weeks to and from battles. During that time, they were prone to attack from anything that could keep up with them. My memory must be fuzzy, because in canon, I always remember a ship that retreated to warp speed being pursued. Sounds kind of similar to how battles run in FO right now... The nacelles already glow - maybe you should just make the "going to warp" sound yourself whenever you order a retreat
I can't see warp being implemented properly without making map sizes much larger (and I run skirmishes on 50Kx50K maps). Until they find a way to use multiple maps at the same time, and warp back and forth between them, what's the point?
