Resolution Optimization for FO

Post ideas and suggestions on new features or improvements here.

I know lots of people have really fancy screens, but it seems a large portion of Fleet Ops gamers don't have access to these sorts of high resolution monitors: any chance that that Fleet Ops could have some tweaking to make it look better on screens that use a resolution of 1024 by 768 or thereabouts? I took a look at some screenies taken on one of these monitors and the font is much less readable  :sweatdrop:

According to stats on the guide (which I know doesn't represent even a mediocre fraction of FO gamers, but could potentially be representative of the whole - I'm not sure):

21 percent use 1680 by 1050
15.5 percent use 1024 by 768
15 percent use 1280 by 800
13 percent use 1280 by 1024
12 percent use 1440 by 900
7 percent use 1920 by 1080

So a large fraction of these users are at least experiencing some really not so pleasant font sizes and distortions... not to mention color blurring. Looks to be quite unpleasant after just a little while of playing  :(

You probably don't want to hear this, but I'm among your 7 % :D

Altough I did play on the lowest res and lowest detail for a time. I feel your pain

I myself play on 1440 by 900 but just looking at the screenie is enough to give me a headache :(

I'm in your 7%, FLOPS widescreen support is part of what helps it supplant all other mods, to me at least.

I play with 1680x1050... it looks great, but I also know what it looks like with 1024x768 as that is the best resolution I can get on an older computer, there is a very noticeable difference.

i use the smallest resolution available (as i play in window mode) but i only see minor problems with the letter a (also the ship names in the 2-16 ship select are a little squished in my opinion

The widescreen feature is among many that set this mod aside from the realm of "mods" and quite firmly into the realm of "games". Any and all lossless opimisations are welcome in my books :). I am one of the 1680x1050's

yes, this has been reported in the 3.1.0 bug thread earlier. i have seen that the fonts are nearly unreadable at resolutions like 1024x768, however in the short amount of time (3.1.0-3.1.1) we couldn't do much about that without risking breaking something else. i have been working on a software side change (as 'quick fix') before the 3.1.1 release to increase the  font size on lower resolutions, which then just didn't work the way i wanted. so i decided that we'll just leave it be in this state for one more version.

btw. the steam survey gives a good overview about what hardware/software/settings gamers are using Steam Hardware Survey
the fleet operations vote looks quite similar
