RE: More Splash Special Weapons

I think this mod is an enormous improvement over the original game.
However, I find that victory for this mod depends more on how fast you build the size of your army than any other strategy.
For instance, although there are many ships in the game, ppl only end up building mass numbers of a single medium strength unit(e.g. intrepid class) and flooding the other team with it.

I was wondering if there could be more splash special weapons that could kill grouped up units faster so that the game will be more dependent on strategy and tactic as well.

That way, the game could be a more dynamic than just building mass amounts of 1 medium strength unit and sending it to the enemy.

That's a good idea; splash weapons. I have noticed that there are very few of these (ie I can only think of one or two; mainly the klingon special ion storm and the dominion hyperspace artillery), maybe it is time to add more for balance... :woot:

Yeah... the Dominion heavy artiliary is one of the best unit in the game because if its splash attack.

The Romulan's quadcobalt torpedoes are good as well.

I was wondering if there could return some old units like shock wave vessesls for klingons, or other area weapons like temporal stations for federation to help against flood of enemies coming in.

The problem with the fed station has already been discussed alot ... Since it has complete map control you can easily annihilate or deny an opponents entire economy... imbalanced in other words. The shockwave ship and dominion torpedo also were tremendously overpowered because a few of these cheap things could decimate entire fleets and stations especially. Smaller scale splash damage was more the thing I was thinking about like the serkas, or possibly even torpedos that bounce of multiple ships, like the akiras in vanilla a2...

I liked the idea of maybe a self destruct that caused AOE (Area Of Effect) damage. Or more along the lines of an artillery ship like the streamrunner in A2 proper.

Well, the sarkas is kind of like the steamrunner vessel in the artillery sense.... but yeah, I did like self destruct (though it should have been more powerful, and only for battleships)

Maybe your picture of the future might be brightened up whenever you think about the balancing the staff did for V3 final.
Actually I quite dislike these kinds of weapons of mass-destruction. Worst case would be the US Army invading your base searching for some - no, that's not what I would like to happen to my bases in FO.

Lots of things will change in V3 final due to the re-balancing.
Ship-spam will stop and strategy will rule!  :thumbsup:
