DOCaCola mentioned it, so instead of bringing it up in another thread, I'll give it it's own.

If this happens, my personal suggestion is an Adapt avatar.  That would round out what the Borg do most of the time, in Seek Perfect Effeciency (Optimize), Add to the Collective (Assimilate), and...well...Adapt.

I'm not sure what it's specifics would be, but if there was any place that you were thinking about implementing any form of Shields for the Borg, that seems like where it would be.  Very survival-minded, as they attempt to Adapt to anything trying to destroy them.

Wouldn't Adaption be pretty much the same as Optimizing?

Optimize is all about being efficient.  You have the Sphere Prime, and it's special weapon draining attacks, increasing the efficiency of your attacks.  You have the upgraded Maturation Complexes, increasing the effeciency of your fleet construction.

It has nothing to do with changing to overcome something detrimental, rather, the very word optimize implies a refinement of current standards to achieve an errorless method maximizing effect with minimum waste.

Adapt, on the other hand, is taking the stance that efficiency is no longer a feasible route to go, and you must do whatever it takes to overcome the situation.  I'd expect the resource crunch, already harsh with the Borg, to be even worse as they broke out the inefficient technology and the inefficient methods.  Supply would likely be extremely tight as well, because they aren't configured to perfect anything but survival, and aren't configured for rapid expansion of the Collective.
