Random maps

Post ideas and suggestions on new features or improvements here.

I hope that, in future versions, the program should be capable of generating random maps (like in STA2).
I think that in this way it will be more interesting to play.

i gotta admit that im absolutly no fan of random maps, but it might help some people against boredom

I do know that Megadroid has been working on a code to generate random maps. Him and I have tested some but it still needs some work (spawning red nebulas on moons anyone?) I'm not sure if the devs have plans to use random maps, but eventually Megadroid will release his random map stuff when it's done.  :thumbsup:

Good sir TUN speaks the truth. I plan to release the random map stuff as soon as it is done, but it needs lots more testing to make sure exceptional situations don't happen and at the minute most of my time goes to MMM. Might do some more mutliplayer testing of the random map this weekend though, if anyone's interested.

Thanks a lot Megadroid for your efforts!
I know the difficulties implied in random generated maps.
Right now I'm designing a 4X space RTS with HUGE, astronomical based random starmaps wich have to be "errors free" to make the game funny and interesting and the planifications of the variables implied must be very precise. Really I understand that.
But I played a lot FO, and after a certain time, I memorize exactly where the resources are, where are the possibles locations of enemy bases, the type, location and possible utilizations of nebulas (to ambush, repair, hide, escape)... etc. And I think this quit a key element in a strategy game: To explore!
Again, I want to express my gratitude to you or to anyone who share my concern about this topic and want to add that critical feature to this (in all other aspects) nice game. To boldly go where no fleet has gone before!
