Random Events

I was just reading about Malon dumpships, when i thought of random events in every game to make gameplay more spicy....

-Like those dumpships, they could come randomly, say twice per hour and begin to dump waste randomly on the map (some variant of tachoon nebula?) ...
or always greedy Ferengi (say 3 Scavengers or any other ship class comes and attacks and takes over a lonely frigate or construction ship etc.)...
or some pirates taking advantage...
or a special encounter with another culture (you encounter a ship of unknown origin, it may be hostile,maybe they decide to join you, or they just go on their way...)

wouldn`t it be even more fun and realistic, especially for a simulation...


-There was a sugestion somewhere about a shield generator or something, which would increase defence in your base...
how about another defensive station, that would generate a shield on a much smaller perimeter (say 1 square on the grid...)

what about upgrades for a station? (Some are supposed to be battlestations, right?)

Your first thing about random occurances is already planned I believe.

The second thing has already been rejected by me, because everything already has shields. It wouldn't be fun for me to have a Star Wars sized shield in Star Trek.

I like the idea for ship and station upgrades.

How about a sun explodes near your base nocs out engines in all ships and forms a black hole

Anyways, good ideas, and station ideas: cool, mabey havve an upgrade so those cute little shuttles can attack

I like the idea of station upgrades, for example when you start each station has 2 or 3 upgrade modules depending on each race for example the klingons might have the option to upgrade the station with a defence ring, for example when you clicked the defence ring upgrade (each would have to cost quite abit maybe 2 credits as well) a small ring of turrets would form around the station giving it extra fire power and protection and the other upgrade could create a field of mines around each station.

Well it would be nice to have stations with the power of say ds9 in the shows armed to the teeth and needing a very powerful fleet to take out, i sometimes feel stations are underpowered and lacking defence.

Along the lines of upgrading stations, how about configurable defenses ranged in depth? Like the strategy center for USA in C&C Generals, you could have heavy short range defenses, and then click another button to spend 10 sec or something switching over to heavy long range defenses (torpedos maybe) that have a MINIMUM range. Could add something very interesting to starbase take-down strategies.

Sounds logical, taking that photon torpedoes really should have a minimum range. As far as I remember that problem has been mentioned in the series already. A torpedo detonating to close to the firing ship would damage it.

I like the upgrades of stations,

what about making a basic turret, from there on you can upgrade it to either a weapons platform or a sensor array, when going to sensor array it can detect cloaked vessels, when going to weapons platform you get a beam weapon on it (or pulse) and then you get the option to upgrade it to heave weapons platform adding a torpedo weapon on it

or something along those lines
