So as a little joke I had this random thought about a toggle in the advanced options that would allow observers to be a "Q" of sorts. This would give them omnipotent powers over the entire battle field, ability to move things make things disappear and just be a general nuisance. Observers could move around the D'kora in past patches this just takes it a bit further. After all what would Trek be with out Q?

Yes I know messes up balance, creates havoc but could be fun if people know in advance that "Q Mode" is active....

"prepares for flamage" :woot:

I like being a nuisance and a bit of an ass, so I support.

I support. One observer, causing havoc for the players. Maybe make it a new game mode or something, where the players have to team up to take down the observe: :D

Q should have never been written into Star Trek!

Why? TOS already did the godlike alien thing, and more often too.

Anyway, sounds interesting. Maybe have the observers in map-edit mode or something to make it work?

I'm not sure about the entire idea, but allowing the observer control of npc ships and stations would be pretty awsome

I really doubt its possible, but a Q'ish feature where you could place or remove asteroids / nebulas in certain areas on the map could be quite funny  :D (Even without Q it might be fun though, a changing battlefield)

Overall complete control might be interesting, but i just don't see anything for long term play.

I like it, but I think it would be important to let them both create and destroy.  After all, Q usually tried to fix his mistakes by giving unfair help.

For example, if a new player lost the first battle the Q could give them a few ships or some resources, to allow them to try that battle again and practice their micro without starting a new game.  People could use this mode to practice various "first battle" scenarios.

A Q who only destroys isn't much fun, but with something like this it could be used as a teaching tool where an experienced player could legitimately even the playing field and make it more fun.  Because honestly, some old players might be able to enjoy random bad events but for new players that's no fun at all.

an  "enable observer cheats online" option might be doable, that way hey could use the death, money, and experence cheats against the players.

any way implemented, i support

Hmm... I'm not so sure about this one guys. I remember a map created by Boggz called Campaign Supernova where you could control a Ferengi ship, and just one small engine disabling device ended up changing the course of the game oh so many times. Now I realize that this would be optional, but who in their right mind would ever turn on this option? It's not a bad idea, and I really think it would be a lot of fun. However, after 1 or 2 games with it, I bet it would never be used again. People would get extremely upset with the observer, and it could lead to some hostility on the forums. Depending on how hard it would be for the devs to implement, In my opinion, they should work on more important game changes with their limited amount of, unpaid free time.

i like this but i agree with funnystuffpictures it could cause some major problems in forum when some slight disagreements arise all tho it could be brought in for offline play against npc as a new game mode for big maps some thing along the lines of your mission is to start a war between all factions then u could have it so u as Q could affect the development of each race there for altering the entire out come of the war all tho i must say something on this scale would take years to create as it is like building a campain

You guys have a point. I still think as long as all parties agree then it shouldnt be a problem. There are days Im not feeling like I wanna be competitive but would like to play, and mess around, Im sure other like minded individuals would enjoy a match with a "Q" creating all sorts of havoc. Moving a dilithium moon, making a ship disappear and reappear somewhere else, putting a dangerous nebula in a fleets path. With these kinds of options no one in their right mind could possibly expect it to be a fair match.

Perhaps the Q should have a cool down before he/she can alter another thing. something like 20 seconds between each use.
