Proposing for Klingon and Romulan Artillery Vessels

Okay, one thing that I dislike about artillery ships is the fact that they are all torp based. I propose a few ideas about these.

Klingon Artillery Vessel:
I find that this ship is great for ship-to-station, but I find these mostly in the ship-to-ship situation. So, I was thinking of modifying it a wee bit. I think that at Rank 4 it should get a pair of pulse disruptors. These of course cause only minor damage, and fire at medium range. It is just for the purpose to give a little extra push to ships that are too close. And the alternate armament that disables engines will instead deactivate the torpedo and transfer the energy to the disruptors basically so that it deals nearly equivalent damage to that of a K'Vort or maybe a bit more.

Romulan Artillery Vessel:
The Romulan vessel, I personally like the idea of reintegrating the exploding torpedo. Though I would like only a modification of the purpose of its special. Instead of an extra torpedo of the same cfg. I was thinking of a Hex-cobalt torpedo. This of course would cause an explosion large enough to rumble and shake the screen. In exchange it drains almost all energy, no fire when cloaked, and the standard weapon is disabled for one whole cycle. The rumble explosion will of course cause more damage, but it may be split amongst vessels in radius.

Artillery-range pulse disruptors just seems wrong to me.  Too far to shoot and the Pulse disruptors are almost always relegated to ships are short-medium range.

Anyway ... you may not use them much against ships (Klingon Arty that is) but against a human opponent you'd be surprised.  A couple of them decloaking at certain times or defending an expansion along with some other ships can be the difference between destroy 1 out of 10 ships and 3 out of 10 ships.

Their special is pretty crucial because you can be tossing torpedoes at them willy nilly at first, then if they turn to retreat you toggle the special and snag one or two more :).

AI's don't tend to retreat that often so it's hard to see their use.

I said the pulses fire at medium range. Even I hate the idea of artillery pulses.

Oh, hahah :).

Well I dunno.  I think the idea of weapons firing at different ranges is cool, in theory, but really I don't know if it's worth it.

Currently it's really only the Dominion T-15 that do that and as far as I know it's ... it's really not that much of a difference.

I think that the Current Arty ship is fine, it just has to be used carefully.  The Cloak helps a lot :D

Does anybody make much use of the romulan arty these days?

Probably, if they're desperate enough to kill the enemy that they'll sacrifice their own ships to do it.

I do: superb for wreaking havoc when you use a few of them from inside nebulae to scatter enemy forces. They also do a tremendous amount od damage if you can force fire them on cloaked ships  :whistling:

Yeah I use them if I am just rolling around in my own feces-- WHOOPS I mean "resources" :D.

They're just so expensive and you need a half-dozen or so to really make a difference on your first volley.  They are so slow that as soon as you are visible you are TARGET NUMERO UNO  :pinch:.  If you can research their special, launch it while cloaked, decloak to fire a second shot at max range and then immediately turn away and try to decloak you can have the double effect of some major damage as well as scattering your opponent's attention :).

I do aginst the AI.  I prefer to use them  as a screening  and as a flanking force . As a assault force to give prepatory massed  fire  on a area target like a  group of turrets or stations. For  a screening force  on the edges of a battle, covering  the  outer areas, or  as a bounding overwatch  to cover the tactical retrograde of my ships back  to the repair yards. I don't know how well this works aginst a flesh and bone  player as I  Don't and can't  play online.  (crappy connection,Dial up ,severe lag at times and  a  CPU Chip  set in my comp which  belongs in a Museum .)
