Progressive unlocking...

I was wondering because games have featured this. I was wondering if once we get a campaign together if it is possible that when you complete a campaign that it would unlock things for the other modes. Like completing a Borg campaign can unlock heros. Another campaign can unlock never before seen mixed tech features. Personally so many games use this and I think it'd would really make things interesting. Now, with MP. If someone who completed the campaign were to play with those who did not. It would be brought down to original level (without unlocks). But if all players were to have completed the campaign, then it would be brought up to full tech (all unlocks allowed).

I'd like to see a cross-over between a single player game and multiplayer with unlockables. I think it'd be a gargantuan effort though. It definitely wouldn't come in the next major version of the game and probably wouldn't be considered at least until an official single player campaign had been devised.
Coincidentally, with all the UI upgrades, I think it'd be pretty cool to have a pre game menu where you could manage and customise which upgrades you take into game. In effect, you'd then have a custom avatar. Again though, not for a long long time (if at all possible!).

To me it'd be interesting because you are keeping a relative balance because the unlocks should be effective of all races. Plus the MP feature where the unlocks are only effective if all members have fully completed the campaign. So to me everything would balance out regardless.
Though what possible negative effects would there be?
I did do the math and it relatively balances out...

the downside would be tha people who dont like campains would HAVE to play them to keep n par with the others

Not necessarily, like I said. If it was MP and there was people who completed the campaigns but there was one (or more) that did not. It'd be broguht down to original tech regardless. So there is no reall reasn to feel as if you have to keep on par with everyone else. Besides, I was thinking of putting it in so MP games could not be used to spoil the surprise for those who have not completed the campaign.

I would prefer only cosmetic changes, like say the first sovereign you build is called the enterprise and has captain picards voice and a different model (nemesis-style). Or maybe different station models. Or replace some of the smaller ships with older ships like the constitution.

unlocks would basically be possible, but it's still a long time before we even start planning on what the campaign should feature
