Possible Borg Adaption Ideas

Post ideas and suggestions on new features or improvements here.

So I was playing a game with Tempest and he had some neat ideas about the Borg adaptor.  He was thinking of a module that would allow you to adapt to torpedos, pulse weapons, and beams on the fly.  Press a button, you take reduced damage to one type, etc.  Probably percentage based.  It would be a fair amount of odfs, but if it was just the adaptor, it might not be so bad.^-^

This got me thinking of another idea.  Since scubes are really easy odf wise (they only have 3 plus their weapons odfs)  Well, what if you could select scube modules that reduced a certain damage type by a percent?  Say 50% just for fun.  But you would have to pick either pulse, torpedo, or beam.  It would give scubes something interesting, and would make them a little more durable.  I know Optec's already got some cool stuff coming for the Borg, so I'm interested to see that, but I wanted get this idea out there.

So yes, let's open Pandora's box again and talk about Borg stuff! :woot:

Is it possible to create a special weapon for that purpose that reduces th damage done by a specifiv class of weapons? Something like the D'dederidex stealth field, just for one ship, and valid only for selected weapons?

I dont know, Im sure Optec will tell us if it is.  My guess would be yes, just because I would have thought it impossible to have resistances to weapons fired by a specific race, and FO team pulled that off.

I like this idea quite a bit, but it could be slightly overpowered if paired with their mixed tech resistance.  Perhaps that could be moved to another ship/ships.

Interesting ideas :) . Since I don't know what exactly Optec planned for the Borg (I believe he said something like "more resistances based on module selection are planned" and that the adaptor will get the brunt of these changes), I'd like to wait and see  :sweatdrop: . A decrease based on certain weapons sounds definitely interesting and would open up a realm of new strategies...although potentially this could be problematic for those factions which rely heavily on one type of weapon, and very little on the others.

I just know that I would like to see the smaller vessels have a use again.  The early sphere is very powerful strategy.  (It better be.  It took us about 80 games over the course of 3 weeks to perfect. :sweatdrop:)  But anymore I find it a little boring, especially in 1v1.  Usually, the other player doesn't wait until he has enough ships to take on a sphere, and then loses everything.  Of course there are counters to it, but having "The Death Star"  slowly roam around the map until it kills everything isn't entertaining for either player most of the time.  I'm really hoping that the next patch will change this.  As it stands, the smaller vessels are too expensive in comparison and don't have a special ability, which is what makes the sphere so appealing.  So I guess any change is good.  I'm excited to see what Optec's got cooked up.  And when are we going to see the Command Cube! :sweatdrop:

Voyager:  Having a specific race resistance is easy because you can go into all the federation ship's weapon odf files and specify a smaller value for the damage done to adaptors with federation modules.  Set values are not hard to do.  What's hard to do is other suggestions people have made, like making adaption work as in the show.  You can't change the values to make ships do less damage over time, or become impervious after a certain number of shots.  Of course like you said, if anyone can pull off the impossible, it's Optec and SuperDoca. Indeed... I'd like to be able to use Probes, Scout Cubes, AND Adaptors to better effect (read: not just in anti-Borg games!)... as it is, the only small Borg units that get some major use as you know are the Detectors :D . I want my transwarping Scout Cubes back  :crybaby:

I think the Command Cube won't make it into the next patch, but who knows... we may be pleasantly surprised  :woot:

uhhm,  ALL the federation weapon files?  Its that easy huh.  Next your gonna tell me there'd need to be MORE lines for the even more reduced damage of TWO fed modules.  Well at least we have copy/paste.

Easy, ptach.

If its that easy, then the weapontype resistances should be "easy" too.  Just go into every beam, plulse, and torpedo type weapon odf, and add lines for the respective module(s).  Oh, wait, you'l probably need lines for each possible combination of modules!  Yay fun.

FO team, you have my upmost respect.

Well, from what I understand they have compilers and stuff that take some of the tedious work out of it.  When I said easy, I was coming from a "can they do it" angle.  I'm sure there's still plenty of work involved. :D
