Possible Assimilation Mechanics

To the Devs:

Is it possible for there to be a new mechanic for assimilation based off of some pre-existing features?

I know people were thinking that it might be fun to have a borg ship with the ability to beam some crew over and begin to assimilate the ship over time.  This could always be implemented with a combination of currently available abilities.

Example:  (and stop me, Optec if this is mechanically not possible)

Using the Shrike's mechanic for placing a "debuff" on the opponent's vessel by "infecting it" with a spy, can the actual affect of the ability be altered or is it hard-coded as an LOS ability?  Could there be an ability in theory that uses a buff-place like the Tal'shiar agent to trigger a crew loss over time?  That way there could technically be an ability that "transports" (effectively removing) 10 of 20 of your crew and places them on an enemy ship.  That ship could lose a certain amount of crew per second as part of the ability.  Thus a ship with low-medium crew might be assimilated 20-30 seconds after the initial ability.

There are a number of abilities like this in other games, I'm just trying to brainstorm it into Fleetops using current codings.

The Buff-placer/Initial ability:  Tal'Shiar Agent - places a "marker" on that ship to allocate effects.

The Timer / Lenth Determiner:  Critical Shot / Plasma Bolt - has a duration for it's effect.  A timer.

The Effect per Second:    The Prime Module on the Sphere - Drains special Energy over time.

In fact, the Mechanics of the Prime Module might be the way to make an interesting and more "Realistic" Assimilation Ability.  Since the Prime Modules have the ability to reduce a numeric quantity over time (Special Energy), could that effect instead be made into crew loss and overlayed on a single-target ability?  The Result would be a targeted ability that reduces the opponent's crew over time.  I'm sure the numbers could be adjusted to make it happen slowly "over time" to simulate a crew being assimilated and fighting the opponents.  Ideally I think a fighting period of 10 to 20 seconds could be good.  During that random amount of time a random number of crew could be killed per second.  It could range from 2 to 18 crew per second for that duration.  Thus at it's minimum it would kill 20 crew, while at maximum it would kill 360.  These numbers of course can always be changed.

Is this kind of ability possible given the mechanics that you folks have adjusted so far?  I feel like the affect of assimilation only has to be "simulated" to make us all feel like there is a battle for control of a vessel going on :).

NOTE:    PLEASE PLEASE PLEEEEEASE don't comment on this thread to just throw out your own idea on assimilation.  There are other threads for that.  This is a specific idea that I am hoping will work.  I'd put it in a PM to Optec but his inbox is usually full :P so I'll put it here.  PLEASE don't turn it into a thread of nonsense.

Love,

Boggz

as i read the forums either way, you dont have to send me PMs to get my attention :)

The basic idea is interessting, but assimilating a ship should be something that you have to work for. There will be some changes on the classic assimilation abilities and one of the features planned for the closer future of the Borg will indeed focus around assimilation, but we dont want to add to many ways of assimilation.

Technically speaking your idea would not be possible at the moment and would require further development

Oh ok.  I did indeed wonder if it was possible.  Warcraft 3 for example can have it's abilities manipulated in oodles of ways to make something spectacular without recoding anything.  You just borrow bits and pieces and "stretch" them :).

I agree that Assimilation should certainly not be a simple nor overpowering thing, but right now that's pretty much just what it is.  Assimilation is rare to say the least.  Thought I'd put out my two sense there :).
