Hi,

yes i know - you can build near the main base an scout station with tachyon ping ....
But it would more logical, can the main base equippet with this ..

Why would it be logical?

Anyway, the tachyon cloak detect was removed from the star bases a couple of versions ago. Perhaps the devs can shed some light as to the why.

i think it is perfectly logical the way it is.

cloaks are pretty advanced (fleetops is years after nemesis) and cloak detection is complicated and requires specialist stuff, like tacyhon technobabbly babbly devices. there isnt room in a starbase for dedicated sensor suites, so only sensor stations can have pings.

id guess because they like the current system better, its more complex and fun to use.

Hi,

i say not the starbases should have this from beginning ...
But as an later add-on that is over research buildable.

"I" see an sense that the most important base in the game for the player, have - if the tech available - an inbuild detector for cloaked vessels and not an weak scout station musst use this thing ....
To say it is not enough room on an starbase, but on an much smaller scout station it is , and in this small station the dedector only use an little space as it musst have power generators, computers, normal sensors and communication environment - not to forgot the shield generators .... make not realy any sense to me at all ;)

Hmm he has a point. might be kinda cool to see some sort of tachyon detection upgrade.
Maybe a mid level tech option. and if its upgraded onto a starbase the starbase sacrifices one of its slots for offense or defense upgrades to balance it out.

indeed, or as a third upgrade option for system, so you'd have

Offence
Deffence
System

upgrades, and the Cloak detect is for the maxed upgrade

Lately the community comes up with some awesome ideas. I can imagine a expensive upgrate for the starbase which request one or even two of the different sciencestations. In previous FleetOps versions the starbase got a ping or the passiv stationary sensor-detect? I can't remember! A stationary sensor-detection  with a slower interval -- maybe every 15 seconds and in exchange a bigger range. Mmmmh, perhaps thats ability makes it harder to cloak-raid the resource moons you start with on some maps. Could be little overpowered.

ah but this sensor station doesnt need any quarters, or weapons, or mess halls, or holodecks etc. all it is is a sensor array. which is the size of a ship, and ships have warp cores/warp engines etc. so the power systems can fit in a sensor station.

I like the idea of being able to upgrade a starbase with a ping.  For me at least it makes sense.  Think of all the space that is taken up by the offensive and defensive upgrades.  Phaser arrays, torpedo launchers and storage, etc.  Having the space to add the required system should not be a problem - especially if the upgrade took the spot of an offensive or defensive.

So long as it is balanced by cost and tech requirements and the range is not so large that it can cover the whole base.

i would be happy with a system upgrade if it stops you doing one of the other upgrades.

so 4 upgrade slots available.

2 off upgrades
2 def upgrades
1 sys upgrade (gives a blue ping)

Having cloak detect available on specific stations also allows them to be destroyed as well, and gives specific functionality - that adds to allowing cloak detect and cloaking to be more of an investment that requires protecting, rather than simply allowing one to avoid defending cloaking if the defense turret itself is capable of maiming fleets. :)

Hi,

i dont like an ping on every larger station ....
This is ONLY for the important "Base" available and as Myles good say in trade for 1 less upgrade defence or offence. And in my idea only later game after research.
I think this would fit good ... ;)

i think if it was only available at the starbase and didnt have the range to cover moons, so main base raiding is unaffected. it would really just be to force klingons to scout more effectively. which in retrospect isnt very important. no player is gonna leave their fleet near an enemy starbase, and if they have a base killing fleet they could just fly in uncloaked.

this would make "starbase at a choke point" a lot nastier though.

Personally I think it should only be for 1 faction, not sure who though, as it wouldn't make too much difference.
