Quite simply a poll about the ideas from this thread: //www.fleetops.net/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,3/topic,10030.0/. Please leave the actual discussion in that thread for the sake of those who don't want to go back and forth between two threads about the same topic.

EDIT: As a clarification to those who might not have fully read the thread about the ideas, the moons and such being visible would be an option set by the host of a match.

I voted for moons and other map objects (nebulae.)

Vote changed to moons only since noone else seems to want nebs visible, and they aren't that important anyways.

Personally always knowing where the moons are on the minimap reqgardless of me scouting them should be there .

My vote's for an "Intelligence Report" style special weapon, flashing moons up on the minimap for a few seconds.

Yeah, I think being able to pay a small sum to reveal the moons would be cool.  Like buying the sector's map from ferengi or others.  You could buy the minimap, but it wouldn't contain any info on player positions.  Just moons and maybe other objects.

It could be called "Insider Mining", or simply "Resource Surveying"  Infact, it could be an option available on scouts instead of starbases if you wanted.

Moons should be on the mini-map 24/7!

i think it should be available at the starbase for 1 supply, buying up to date star charts. star charts dont break the bank after all. pings all moons.

I'd like such a special to only cost energy, about half a base's energy. However, I would much prefer just showing the player the moon locations at all times, as the special seems like it would be about the same, but that extra few seconds of pinging moons has the potential to cause the player to be at a disadvantage that the other player(s) might not have.
I also would like such a special to not be like intel report, and to actually make the moons permanently shown on minimap.

a special energy cost would really be nothing, as the starbase doesnt use energy for anything else.

i think multiple pings is enough especially at a low low supply cost.

Nope I wont like to see moons or anything else already on the mini map.

I mean that's what scouts are for - to find them. If you don't scout properly it's bad luck. Besides people can usually already see where the different moons are right before a game starts.

I know that it is annoying if people ask "Ehm where's my expansion?" I usually ask that myself but there's also the fun in it.

I can't think of any other map objects that would be useful to see straight away. If it's in black Fog of war it's supposed the be hidden and not known yet. In some later possible singleplayer campaigns sure. Certain things could be already revealed storywise.

I think I'd prefer an 'other' selection. if it makes sense (personally, I look at the minimap beforehand, and do enjoy the need to scout during the game for a reminder)

but as for the other, what about giving the scout an ability for 1 di or 1 tri.  but instead of revealing all moons. you have to select to reveal the closest di moon, or closest tri moon to the scout. if you click reveal closest di moon (either to your base's expansion, or the current location of the scout depending... if you already have your first expansion and want to look for something else maybe closest di moon to the scout is best) then this costs 1 di. if you click closest tri moon, it costs you 1 tri. you pay for not knowing... encourages new players to learn. and 1 is certainly enough. its just a moon location after all.

also, this way you learn nothing about anything too deep into the map. you dont get the location of your opponents moons. (although with a lot of symmetrical maps, you can just apply the location of your closest expansion to where theres will be). for a symmetrical maps, it will allow you to know about your closest di moon, and you will still need to scout for your opponents.

also, all the maps are playable in instant action... except for custom made ones i suppose.

but i think it is understandable to have something like this, inasmuchas having random placement might slip some people up sometimes. you look at the map, in a four starting point map, and know two for sure, but then just your luck you get one of the others and cant remember quite as well... but yeah, i dunno.

but to be honest, anything or nothing is fine with me. doesnt seem like a big issue. if you know the map, then you already know where all the moons are. if you make someone else pay for the information you already know... sure why not. if you dont know the map.. you have to learn some way.

quick modify. for instance, for some maps, like early bird, i think? expansion is with solo moons. the di and tri are off in opposite corners. or the one with the belt right in the middle, and each faction on opposite sides of it. also has the two moons in the middle at top and bottom. but with splitting it up, di moon/tri moon. can be really specific about what you want. and just because you get a ping saying there is a di moon right here, doesnt necessarily mean you will always find a tri moon there. blue amber also. sometimes i only want a specific resource expansion.

I always prefer for the whole map to start out explored, just to make it easier for people who don't know the map.
