- If you own a Planet, you gather ressources
- Starbases near a Planet are way stronger
- A planet can handle one or two buildings and increases some of their values. So if you put a Yard in its orbit, it builds faster, a research station researches cheaper/faster usw...
- Ships in Orbit of a planet recover faster from damage

Sounds good to me usw... ;)
It really is a good idea to bring more playing depths into the game. I just don't know if the dev team wants to reintroduce planets as real map objects at all. I'd like to see those ideas become true. And no, those ideas are not disbalancing the game. It's in the power of the mapper to balance it like giving me me 6 moons and the other one 2.

I agree. What you make with the features is part of map editing.

I think one of the big problems with adding planets is that they did look kind of silly(scale, ships sliding around the atmosphere) in regular armada.

One way around this would be to make them absolutely massive(relative term), but mostly below the play area with only a little bit of the top overlaping with the normal game.

I also think that if planets are added prehaps they should be non essential to the games economy, so that is to say you dont start with one, they are just another thing to battle for control of on the map.

I don't think this is a big problem 'cause:

- Very (habited) plantes could be localized in corners or on a very far away point at the side of a map. Those huge giants can give ressources, credits... whatver.
- Planets could be in depth and some times bigger than they are now in Stock A2. I suggest 3-5 types of planets:
                * Huge habited (Credits, Ressources, on the side, planetary defence, yards, starbases, ships in Orbit gain repairs, increased defense value...)
                * Medium, non habited (Can have a starbase or yard, brings litte ressources...)
                * Small (brings just one ressource...)
                .

                .

                .

Class J = Gas Giant. Saturn = Gas Giant. Rings are not important, the Planet is.

Ridiculous quarrel:

Class M planet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I < J < S < T
no talk about rings at all
not even hints that rings are relevant
i also can see no reason why rings shouls alter a planets nature

and here:
Planetary classification - Memory Alpha, the Star Trek Wiki
there is not even a mention of class s

So just call it a gasous giant.

Try this one: http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Saturn and tell me which is more trustworthy.

Memory Alpha (one of the most widely trusted and reliable Star Trek sites around) or Wikipedia (Do I need to say anything about this one?).

We were talking about the Class Saturn is, not about planets with Rings. I like rings, too.
