So you want to go back to the days of A2? The most of the rest of us like the way that fleet ops is. Every good rts that i can think of uses counters.

lol tokra even if u dont consider passives, editing by hand for ranks will take days.

And if u are suggesting the immense task of rebalancing fleetops and removing passives, well that belongs in an idea thread. I doubt it will happen as it means the devs deleting loads of work they did on ideas they clearly like and want in their game.

If you want to play Fleet Ops without passives, version 2 is still available for download.  You can try playing against the AI with that version, it's still pretty fun.

The passives were introduced to offer additional balancing dimensions, to support the goal of making vessels unique and more fun to build strategies around them. We are always eager to follow the "keep it simple" pattern, but in this case we are confident that the passives added more depth to the game. They also offer a place to add a bit more ingame-lore.

An "FO Light" mod with a more action than strategy oriented gameplay might be a fun side project too ^-^

You should leave at least the silver ranks, though. Halves the ship/weapon odfs, without losing experience benefits.

I disagree, we should remove all of the ranks if FO Light were ever built.  However, special weapons that are gained through ranks should be put on the first rank so you don't loose any specials that otherwise might be lost on rank-up.  Avatars should also be merged.  Warp-in ships would have to either (1) be buildable at the shipyards so that not all of the vessels take up warp-in slots, or (2) remove the warp-in slots all together, take your pick.  And Borg modules would have to be merged into a single vessel.

My least favourite word that I hear all too often on this forum :(

But FO light would be cool for some fans of old A2, of which I am; I just personally think FO is better, but not everyone will agree.

I think Optec was implying that if people wanted to make an 'FO Light' it's up to those interested  :whistling:

Never be released?  I've started the schematics for this mod!  In fact, I'm almost ready to start removing the extra ODF files.  Check out this thread.
