It's been said that the Ciadans, one of the playable races planned for FO, existed within subspace and evolved there. I was curious if any other races native to subspace might appear as NPC races in FO, such as the 'clicking' aliens that abducted the Enterprise-D crew in Schisms.

hm yep i could imagine some events like with one or the other subspace race, why not
if anybode comes up with some cool ideas i'm always welcome
most of the mapevent stuff is usable already and remains to be tested, so we should see the first cool stuff within the next patches

Sounds absolutely wonderful Optec
Some map event ideas I've been thinking of but I don't know how "balanced" they would be
... so they might be crap
. I realize that they don't really deal with subspace, so I'm sorry for derailing your thread TUN. I can put it in another thread if you'd prefer
"hole in space": abducts a random vessel, and places it somewhere else on the map after a few seconds.
"polywater": kills of all crew on starships in a small area or forces vessel to fire on any nearby vessels for a short period of time.
"sensor mirage": a bunch of Romulan Warbirds decloak in front of one of your vessels... and then disappear.
"abandoned missile base": an "asteroid" wanders through space, and unleashes a fury of cool looking missiles at nearby vessels.
"anomalous space": strange nebula appears that covers a wide area, if you pass through it random systems will be disabled for short periods of time.

How about these?
"Deadzone": An area of space where most communications (orders) cannot carry through, making it difficult to control objects in that area.
Spacial fold: An invisible gate that sends ships that happen to cross it into random points on the map.
"Dampened space": A part of space where ships loose all their systems, during which they'll drift through it. And if they happen to drift out, then their systems will return upon exit.
Temporal pockets: Pockets of space where ships would either slow down or accelerate due to temporal varience. These of course are only visible when there are ships in it (it bends and skews the image in it).

is polywater from the naked time/now? cos i like that idea.
sensor mirage works if there are romulan players but if no1 is playing as romulans then every1 would immediately realise.
hole in space and the anomalous space could be combined to implement the myriad of random stuff (chaotic space/graviton elipse/ion storms/neutronic wave fronts etc) in star trek. maybe the devs could implement damaging anomalies that arent too powerful, just annoying, and not tell us where they are, so it really is a surprise. effects could include the suggested random subsystem disabling, or damage, or loss of control, random displacement etc.
the asteroid seems more like a map object like a breen base. i think a similar more canon idea would be random mercenary or ferengi d'koras running around attacking stuff, maybe make them a small bit weaker than most level 1 destroyers as a military vessel should be able to stop them.
EDIT: blast, u beat me to it gamer. i like ur temporal anomaly idea, there is canon support for it in enterprise. (please dont nom me enterprise haters)
EDIT 2: even though optec resolved the original topic in the 2nd post, i have a feeling doca is gonna come along and move us to another thread.

we need some ds9 and voyager representation:
from ds9: the weird thing in "one little ship" that makes ships smaller.

and from voyager: a special dilithium moon from "threshold" that alllows u to travel at warp 10 FTW!!!!11one

i cant believe nobody working on voyager at the time didnt slap the stupid out of the writer of threshold.

Telepathic pitcher plant. The best thing about Voyager... a big, Starship-eating... plant...

I you want to know what happened to the last people, you're out of luck. Can't ask them what happened unless you ask before the weapon massacres the entire species with its wartime perfection.

picard was the last guy to buy one lol, i doubt he ever paid. starfleet probably ordered him to blow it up after that episode.

Most likely, Starfleet hates the existence of technology more powerful than what they have.

The Ferengi would be appalled...

I suppose, since I am obsessed with NPC races, I'd just like to see an NPC faction or two native to subspace make an appearance in FO. The abductor aliens from the TNG episode Schisms would be a pretty interesting race... even though many people complained about them looking like goofy fish in monk outfits I thought they were rather mysterious and I was always curious to find out more about them. It would be interesting to see them fleshed out a bit in FO since the Ciadan may know of them as subspace neighbors.
