If possible, it'd be a neat option to toggle to have eliminated players become observers.

Got to thinking of this after 3 cubes and a rom fleet hit knocked me out of a FFA after a few hours of play, kinda a shame to not be able to see whats going on.

Definitely agree. That timer that kicks you to the admiral's log should go altogether to be honest.

Sounds ok to me, it's not like they can tell their ex-team anything.

Thru teamspeak they could, and admitedly it COULD create issues, that said I think the vast majority of players would cry foul if a defeated teammate did that.

How's that any different to any other Observer, though? They have teamspeak too.

I like this idea too.  I always hated being eliminated and not being able to see the end of the game. :(

I don't know what server options there are, but I think it would be good to also let observers speak, with a few conditions.

1. they can only speak to all players, no allied or individual chat
2. any player can turn off their chat.  They can only chat if ALL players have allowed it under the comm menu.

Given time and a little guidance I could probably code this myself, I took a course in networking last semester.

I also agree that having continued observers would be great, but before that I think we need better mechanics to communicate with observers in case there's a dispute that needs to be resolved.  I mean, besides teamspeak.

Even speaking to all would lead to problems.

Doesn't matter anyways since they can just use TeamSpeak.

this isnt about whether observers can chat or not, thats been discussed in other threads.

as for wiped out players becoming observers (and losing the ability to chat of course) i see no immediate reason why it shouldnt be. the cheating that could go on would be the same as if they observed from the start and just used teamspeak. of course any player who becomes an observer should leave their team's ts channel as a matter of courtesy.

Leave TS channel? I've been in a team's channel in a match while observing. You just have to keep your mouth shut about things they don't know.

Easier said than done, especially for the more talkative viewers.
