Hey while watching many replays recorded by clint and his stuff and also by observing myself I would like to wish me a sensor range display.
That means if the observer clicks on a random ship he will see a transparent circle around the selected ship showing it's actual sensor range.
This feature should be client wise and can be enabled & disabled in an extra menu button on top for the observer only.
Could be interesting for our guys which are recording games.

i'd like this to appear if u hovered over the sensor subsystem.
currently its possible to tell a rough sensor range by what parts of the fog are grey, they form a circle around the ship.

Sounds good, but I think that the circle appearing on ship select should be togglable.
Btw, does weapon range showing when hovering on weapons sub work for observers? I'd really like to see the ranges in replays and I never see an observer doing that.

Indeed it does not work at the moment - I think it's a great idea

This is a great idea! Would be nice to know if the players should "notice" things.

I'm generally in favor of anything pro-observer
Star Trek Armada II: Fleet Operations - Observer see players point of view

Cool idea.
Also is there any chance of showing a players avatar, where the ferengi avatar is when a player is selected?
eg:
Observer selects a players ship, in place where the ferengi avatar was, it will change to the selected players avatar and when moused over it will show the bonuses that avatar gives. When deselected it can change back to the ferengi avatar.
Would make it easier for observers to see who is playing who without looking at their shipyards.

sounds good to me (both the op idea and the avatar idea)

I agree the Avatar idea is also nice.. So if you click on a ship - station etc. of a specific player the avatar on the left side will change to his respective avatar.
The point of view idea also sounds interesting. Things like that were possible in quite some games - one example for that sort of thing was KKND2 Crossfire.
The weaponrange circle idea is as good as the sensor range idea.. The more possibilities an observer has to view things the better replays we get in the future.

all these observer preference settings seem over powered.
Where is our over-powered-checking machine???
[move]:kid:[/move]
next thing we know observers can move moons, asteroids, and even cause spacial distortions which will cause chaos all over the playing field

I have one additional idea for the observers.
If possible make it so that when the option observers is enabled you get 3 observer slots somewhere on the side outside the main players.. So whenever someone joins and he decides to become an observer he will be automatically moved to one of those 3 spots.
This doesn't mean however it will be limited to 3 observers only. If you have more observers the 4th observer will stay in his slot he joined in as regular player and this goes and till there are only 2 players for 1 v 1.
That way we could finally be able to watch 4v4 matches ingame.

this has been asked for b4 (granted was for only 1 extra slot) but its on the devs to do list to bring 4vs4 replays to ur comps so its a bit of a wait and see if the devs can code it or not thing (without the sorce code mind)

Good to hear that.. Well I guess after 156 pages of ideas everything has been already suggested here and there.
I'm confident that they can develope something. I mean even without the A2 sourcecode they basically changed the entire game already.

It's never a problem to suggest something again
. Afterall, it could have been missed, forgotten, or simply placed on low priority, and we are always suggesting new ways to accomplish old suggestions
