Was just watching an SC2 replay and noticed that they included a nuetral map object called the "Xel-Naga" tower that gives you extended vision as long as you have a unit at it to "work it".

Something in that vein would be very cool for 3.1.4 :).  Er ... I guess whenever some new NPC stuff is put in :D.  I guess I'm just hoping it's 3.1.4  :sweatdrop:

If the team decides to make the Unity Station worth something, it could be used to that effect by any race allied to a Federation or Klingon player.

Not really, that was a communication Array, not a sensor station.

Unity Station is already in the game and doesn't need modelling, it could detect all ships (even cloaked ones) several sectors away.

true but the unity station is much to large

How is it too large? Starbases have a habit of being large.

what about the old romulan spy sat....its small and not used by the romulans anymore.

That might work, but what's the obsession with small? I'm still voting for Unity because this is its entire purpose.

now that i think of it im not sure fleet ops needs something like the SC2 tower in the game because fleet ops has a free scout at the start of the game and rather then keep a unit near the station to gain line of sight ....y not just move your scout to that location. and fleet ops does not have game elements like high ground or "grass" that blocks line of sight.

actually fleetops does have different terrains, like nebulae.

a green neb is high ground, forces the enemy to run or join you in the green neb. some nebs block sensors.

i think more nebs will be on the cards too.

there are so many gameplay mechanics that can be altered by nebs, speed, rate of fire, crew effects etc.

well if a station is added to the game that defeats the effects of neb then y have neb in the game. and neb are not quite the same as the field of vision aspects of SC2  and most neb do not cover most of the map, but in sc2 diffrence in hight is common across there maps.

im not for a station that lets you see huge distances by the way. i wouldnt want a station that could defeat nebs.

nebs are still different terrain even if they dont cover the map.

the "neutral" sensor station or sensor station grid idea exists as a todo already.
we are still looking for ideas on what to do with the unity station

well ya your right it does have diff tre.... but i still dont think a (line of sight) station is needed in fleet ops because the player gets a free scout and if you need to watch more of the map , then build more scouts. but it realy would be nice to see neutral stations on the map that let you buy something or repair ships or buy npc ships.

Glad to hear it :).

Was the Unity Station something in Canon that I missed? Is it something from the Vanilla Campaign that I just forgot about? :D
