I got the idea after seeing this thread.

It's simply a new race. The nice thing about it however is that there's next to no info on it. The designs can be whatever. If anything, it'd be nice to see a cylindrical warp design. It looked good on Vulcan ships and on this: Cardiff Class. It is far away. That detail alone can make for a unique form of play. Since it's far away, there's a much higher consumption of supply. They can secure territory through heavily fortified stations while vessels below the destroyer chassis are comparatively weak against other fleets.
With the introduction of trade/supply stations in FO 4.0, the NA (not to be confused with N/A), a unique station might be one with dedicated warp-ins which slowly accrue supply for the Alliance. These stations can be upgraded with additional supply ports or fortification.
NA ships in the range of large shuttle-like craft to large destroyers can carry heightened sensors and weak armaments. An alternative layout is to have high system and defense, next to no offense and have all ships carry a particular complement of fighters. The larger chassis can sacrifice sensors and/or system for armaments and take comparatively longer to build.
As part of this feature request, I would like to see fighters removed from the Federation. Starfleet has always been science and exploration oriented. DS9 and ST:I are the only exceptions and the excuse for them in my opinion was pretty lame. (ST:SU was an alternate timeline) And while Fedi fighters have a nice feel to them, I doubt FO is going to incorporate a FPS mode for max enjoyment. Fighters are only truly successful when the entire fleet is designed with them in mind.

A new race is unlikely, at least until the 3 already planned ones are done.
Starfleet may choose to focus on exploring when they can, but they are still the military of the Federation. I would rather the fighters stay, but have an avatar specifically built around them.
