Recent discussions about the newton have given me an idea about it.

I'm working under the assumption that the newton will lose its phaser soon, which i am happy with.

1) remove its repair beam, i never liked its repair beam, it always seemed a little powerful and too useful.

2) give it a tractor beam, and maybe a larger model to make it look like its got enough grunt to pull large ships. no need to make it massive as we saw a danube class runabout tractor a galor class.

3) give it the repair team special from stock, so it can send a repair team over which will vastly increase the repair rate of an allied ship, repairing subsystems really fast.

4) make its tractor beam do a small amount of healing on critically damaged ships. so ships with less than 20% hull will have their hull slowly repair up to 20%. maybe by 1% every second. call it an ability to transfer power to the allied vessel's structural integrity, enough to get the vessel to hold together in one piece until it can return to a shipyard.

5) maybe a slightly higher defence value, so it can take a couple hits, it no longer has a pop gun so it cant be exploited.

so now a newton can use repair team on a vessel and tow it away at the same time, soon the engines will be repaired and the vessel can move on its own.

or if the newton has no energy left it can just tow. but when tractors are active the special energy regen rate is cut by 75%

EDIT: murdered a typo

Interesting ideas :) . Something along those lines would be cool if it was codeable

hmm might be good  I was just playing as the Romulans and was getting aggravated at having to send my ships to yards for minor repairs  when the feds can just send a Newton to repair the ship and have em siting in fleets to repair on the spot right away.

Ah, was playing as the romulans last night and the Feds were very kind to send a Newton right near to my base very early on.  Captured that and so had both shield regen and repair abilities quite early on.  Who needs shipyards.

Anyway, some nice ideas there Myles.

So tell me, why would the Feds want to repair an enemy ship?  :D

Anyway it is a good idea, we might just see it added.

I thought he was referring to captured enemy ships.

Then it would be an allied ship, it ceases to be an enemy ship when it's not an enemy.

No shit, Professor...

My literal remark was that a captured enemy ship IS an allied ship.  But, that doesn't change the fact that it was taken from the enemy, which ALSO makes it an enemy ship. (former)  It can be both.

An Example: If my friends show up and smack you around with a baseball bat, and then steal your car... It's still your car, but you could kind of say that its allied to me now. making it a 'captured enemy vehicle.'

Anything that makes the newton more like a truely valuable ship, rather than like an addon to a turret field (which is an evil thing to do with one), is good by me.

To answer NuclearDude's  Question  " Why  would you want to repair a  captured ship?" Simple,to not use a ship that Is all ready  built  and  will cost your opponent  Time , Dia/ Tri and  other consumeables to replace  is a not a  good use of a "Free Resourse".  Once repaired they can  be used to suppliment  you fleet . A nother good use is to  protect you rear areas freeing up your own races ships for battle . To just to blow it up to watch the  pretty lights makes little tactical sense.  In the real world Captured , repurposed  combatant vessels  allow a opposing force  the ability to Confuse , subvert and have  the  opponent, possibly ignore a vessel till to late.

Unless i'm really strapped for ships I don't repair captured ships unless im playing as a race without cloak abilities and i capture a cloaking ship, that is a keeper of course.

Otherwise its off to the shipyard for deconstruction and conversion into lovely resources.

I think i said it elsewhere though, when playing as the Borg I love to make up fleets of captured ships and send them on suicide runs into enemy bases just for laughs.

captured ships are more useful as ships than resources as u get back reduced resources on decom.

the ship is free and can be used in combat with the rest of your fleet. instantly giving you more dps.
