The game is called Fleet Operations, it isn't designed for solo attacks.

But shouldn't there also be single vessel balancing?

What do you mean? Each faction is not a mirror of the next--each faction does not have an identical ship to all the others so "single vessel" balancing doesn't make any sense in this regard. If you are talking about toning down an individual ships powerfulness, that is done in relation to the enemy fleet. Aka, the Feared Norway Spam: you could spam these without any other support--hence it was overpowered.

*facepalm*
Even though this is cruel... congratulations Gamer, you have now completed the transformation into the old Ray230.

This mod--contrary to your plainly stated belief--does not revolve around you. It is true, the ideas we suggest often make it in, but to expect--to demand--that you be listened to is verging on egotistical. Try to show some restraint and expect to be criticized if you post an idea. If you can't take compliments or condemnations then it is not wise to post at all, but merely listen. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion.

By the way, FO was released long before you or I registered, and it will be here for a long time coming. We are all newbies but to expect that you are better than everyone else is to spit in the faces of all the other forum members. The ideas were clearly not set, but they do fall in a framework and to expect to completely change this is unwaranted. Have patience, have humility and be mature about it.

The Descent is really only good end game: it won't do to much to those destroyers, given that it's quantum torpedoes miss 40% of the time and the ship only has 35 offense anywho. Although, if anything, most online gamers tend to think of Warp-In in general as slightly overpowered because of the tactical advantage it gives you, as well as the huge boost to fleet power (basically it's a bottle neck for most players, as it capitalizes on any mistakes you make as another faction in the early game phase).

They do tend to miss a fair bit actually. I tend to use them as flagships early on and combine them with other smaller ships. The main reason is for it's special ability to recharge shields. I think they work well in both early and late game engagements against the AI but that's probably more due to the lack of response provided by the AI. The added advantage in the early game is that there's not a whole lot that can take them down early on so they tend to level up steadily without losses. By the time late game arrives, I'll likely have two Decents with a high Officer rank or in Veteran status. I should probably make the venture into online gaming at some point to see what that's like :).

I'm sure when you do come on you'll enjoy it
Another problem with the Descent is its slow speed: you just can't get it out of a tough situation in a hurry, and it won't support your Sabers effectively because of its shorter range and inability to make hit and runs. Plus, every destroyer can get away from the Descent faster than it can destroy them (and several Bugs will knock out the Descent quicker than you can say DS9). Usually the more ships the merrier, so I tend to hold off on the Descent until I have captital ships I need taking down (not to mention recharging the shields of Excelsior II's or Sovereigns etc). Thus for me it tends to do better in fleet actions  :D

If he wants to guide solo attacks he needs to Get SFC 3(Star Fleet Command).I agrre with most there that  if you are  getting creamed  you might have to change one's tactics. I used to have the same problem. But I had to adapt to work around  the  flawed tactics of my old playing style. There is an old saying that goes lie this ... "There is nothing wrong with making mistakes ,However there is  in making the same one over, and over and over,"

I doubt it. And as for stand alone ships, i wouldn't say they don't fit: look at Supreme commander. While it was primarily focused on army battles, it had Experimentals which could crush armies with little support. In fact, one of the things on the drawing board for our mod is something like this... sssshhhhhh! :cloak:
