New Romulan Power
Post ideas and suggestions on new features or improvements here.

A thought just hit me. Cloaked ships don't regenerate special energy while cloaked, but what if one did? I could imagine it being new feature for some Romulan support ship, or even a new Vetern ability.
It might be overpowerd for some specials, like a weapon. For example, you wouldn't want it for a Rhienn's vector torpedo, or the serka's extra attack while cloacked special. But for abilities like the D'deridex's stealth field, it wouldn't be so bad.
I was thinking there was going to eventually be a new Romulan support ship, and that could be its third ability; or it could be a Vetern ability for an already existing ship. As a Vetern ability, there would be a limit on how many ships could regen energy while cloaked.
Done right, it could be fairly balanced, and would be a pretty nice ability for the Romulans. Tell me what you think.

Sounds good to me

Hate to say it, but it sounds like it belongs on the D'deridex, Shrike, and Tavara. The two most 'power supplied' ships, and the one designed for extended stealth operations.

I fully agree!
I would also see the support ship do that.

Thanks Optec!
After thinking about it, I believe you're right, Silent. It would work very well on the Shrike and the Big D. I think the D'deridex's vetern ability is specialized defense, which reduces special weapons damage. A good situational passive, but it's not like Dagger Doctrine and Matriarch Warbird where you just want to drool.
And I like the idea of having the shrike always cloak, but can still beam a scout as a ship passes by and not have to recharge. Although the pulse weapon mastery ability is really powerful. Perhaps they could have both?

Watching "The Search, pt.1": What about reducing the movement speed for cloaked vessels? It is stated that only higher warpspeeds would cause subspace variances (-> rendering cloaked ships detectable) but I thought it might add to the sneakyness ...

Since only high Warp causes Cloak issues, why would Impulse be reduced? Speed reduction would only be useful if non-cloaked ships could collide with cloaked ships they didn't know were there.

I knew that only high warp causes problems with cloak and that there is no indication that driving at impulse speed weakens the cloak. I've nothing against cloak at all, but I thought it might be an interesting feature for bigger vessels which have no cloak yet, indicating that maintaining cloak with an otherwise high "energy signature" necessitates cut backs in propulsion. Maybe for the Taqroja's Negh'var.
The scene in "The Search" reminded me of submarines, which were slower when submerged, trying to reduce overall noise etc.

Is it possible to somehow integrate the Remans into FO history? After all I'd think that the Remans would probably bring some effect on the Romulans technology considering the fact that now the Romulans and Remans might be at war. For instance, the Romulans might focus their efforts on improving their weapons because of their internal conflict. Also the introducing of new ships that are cheap to build for the purpose of quickly strengthening their fleet. Plus maybe the idea that the Romulans might bring back improved versions of old designs. Similarly with the Federation during the Dominion war (at least in FO history). Because the Excel II and Mir II are results of that are they not?
To me I'd think something similar would be true because the Romulans are now dealing with internal affairs with the Remans. Or is that simply a matter that isn't addressed in FO?

The Reman rebellion was quelled in FO history, they are no longer a power, just Romulan slaves.

Oh......... well, than I guess my point is useless.

This topic was about certain Romulan ships regaining special energy while cloaked, not about cloak detection. But...ermm.....thanks for the bump!

Yes, I know, but I didn't want to start a new topic for a minor suggestion. Or give a Romulan Ship a cloak which reduces movement speed but allows for special energy regeneration

I dig the idea, Mal. I think it would make a great Vet ability or EVEN a Rank 5 (first gold Bar). Rank 5 for Shrikes and maybe Vet for a larger vessel.
The Shrikes are definitely a good candidate for Rank 5 because their ability is more peripheral and not direct damage.
