New nebula idea

Would it be possible to have a new nebula which would be huge single nebula, perhaps around the size of Argus array in Fleet Ops. The effects of this nebula would vary on how deep in nebula vessels are. The nebula could have this kind of effect layers, eg:
1. Uttermost layer. Building stations possible, but all vessels are affected by the nebula (eg. slower speed or reduced sensor range)
2. Same effects as in first layer, but building stations becomes impossible.
3. more deeper in nebula, building stations would be impossible. Ships get more negative effects (eg. very slight damage)
5. Right before last layer, nebula will hide ships.
6. Nearest the core of nebula. Causes massive damage or/and other effetcs.
The first layers could have larger radius than the deeper areas, so there would be lot of space in edges where the effects are not so drastic.
The nebula could also have some some impassable objects like asteroids to make it more interesting. Perhaps some gas pockets that have their own effects too. Or small clear ares inside.
The visual appearance could be more light and transparent in the edge areas and get more and more thicker inside. So when a ships is at the edge area, the nebula wouldn't be so different to rest of the space nearby.
This kind of nebula could be very intresting on maps, when some resource moons are placed inside.

I like this one... one big nebula instead of a lot of smaller ones.

Would be quite nice, as long as graphical problems are minimized

I'm in support as long as the big nebula is more subtle. I would not like to see a larger version of the nebulae we have now as they're too much of a hit to the eyes on a large scale but a nebula with a soft glow would be excellent. We could place our current small ones to get varying visual and gameplay effects.

I think that is an excellent idea that would certainly give the nebulae strategic value they deserve. Right now they are little more than eye candy,and i hope they'll get some love soon... Back in the days of stock A2 I enjoyed creating maps covered with (mostly mutara) nebulae,with a few corridors and wormholes to connect everything. That way even the races without cloak could use surprise attacks and ambushes. Players could choose if they wanted to get somewhere fast through the corridor and risk being attacked,or crawl at half speed without sensors across map...
