New Defensive Feature for turrets (Klingon Maybe?)

I was thinking this. Nebulan Charges.

What it does is that it fires a warhead within close proximity (but not actually hitting) the target. The charges explode creating a temporary nebula of harmful gases such as Metreon (Stock Red Nebula), Neucleon (FO Red Nebula), Tetryon (FO light blue nebula), or other kinds of nebulas. Depending on the nebula created you have different life spans, different damage rates, and different immediate side effects. For example:

Metreon Charges:
DPS: 6.8
Life Span: 5 seconds
Side Effects: Sensors are Jammed

Tetryon Charges:
DPS: 8.9
Life Span: Little over 3 seconds
Side Effects: Shields are disabled to affected units.

Neucleon Charges:
DPS: 4.6
Life Span: 8 Seconds
Side Effects: None




Basically the affects and damage are effective to both ally and enemy units for sake of balance. But I'd think it would be a great addon. What do you think?

Could be interesting. What weapon range and nebula radium are we talking about.

IMO this would be best suited as a Special weapon.

While on the subject, creation of an explosive nebula (explodes when weapons are fired in it)

Well, Weapon Range would have to be Long. But Nebula cloud radius. Maybe somewhere between Dogfight and Short Radius?

That sounds very interesting, I could imagine to literally see an "Ion torpedo" creating a little ion storm :).
But why do you want that on a turret? That seems quite strange to me. But maybe there could be a "nebula station" firing with those nebula torps AND being able to produce a little nebula around itself just like species 8472 behemoth  :woot:. You create your own nebula and set a trap for your enemy.
Hmm, that would be even more strange I guess. I'd rather like to see it as special weapon on a starship.

Nebula generation is already ingame; the Klingon BortaS Class is built almost entirely around it (Ion Storm). Maybe a veteran BortaS could change to firing a torp to generate at a distance?

Stock Armada2 and  I think In the earlier  versions  FO  the Klingons  did have  for the Bortas a Ionizing torpedo. The torp worked great for stations.  A small fleet of 12 or so  could really  tie up a  Starbase  station. the trick was to micro them out of the FEBA to the rear and have the yard  dump them back repaired and  S. Energy  recharged for an another assault on the star base . I would not mind  either a station or a ship firing  the Nebula Generating torpedo. However, I feel the ships  wou  need to be  shorter ranged than the station but more powerful  than the longer range but less powerful stations for reasons of balance . Stations  should get a 45 second  recharge rate  as the ships should get a 30 second recharge.l
