I have to say though, that when it comes to the non-cloaking races, they can almost NEVER have enough scouting abilities
.
Map intelligence is SUCH a crucial part of playing this game (any RTS really) and the Dominion, Borg, and Federation do not have the passive ability to stick a cloaked scout somewhere and have info forever.
Also, I hope people remember that, when comparing two abilities they think are "too much alike" that the actual mechanics of the game sometimes require things to "share" the basis of the idea
. Just because someone says that the Runabout could "warp in" to survey doesn't NECESSARILY mean that the ability is too much like Warpin and should be scrapped

to boogzilla -
but if everyone(or every race) is able to use these special sensors easily, then what the hell is the point of fog/shroud on?? I personally do not want the fog/shroud to be removed as a component strategy, b/c every race will have it easy and can detect and see everything on the map... right now the only race able to do that are romulans and partly klingons (but they are more easily detected cuz of no adv. cloak)

I don't think we're even CLOSE (remotely close) to rendering shroud and fog irrelevant
.
More scouting options are ALWAYS ok with me

A thought would be to have a Shuttle craft drop remote sensors there would be two classes. Active probes once dropped and activated would have a limited time on (30 seconds). Or passive wich would not scan untill the ship comes in to range then would transmit to you Sensor net.

Pappy, that sounds really cool. Some kind of station/probe that only provides info if there is a friendly ship nearby.

I think if Feds get a probe ability it should be something launched from larger ships, as that's what we saw in the shows. And not just a return of Canaveral's old probe but something that you can give move orders to like a cheap scout, but not quite as large a sensor radius as a scout, no weapons, and no shielding. Making a stationary probe would be too similar to the Dominion.
