Just another random idea

Research: Nebula Construction

Allows a construction ship to build buildings inside a nebula. All nebula affects still apply.

Gives a little high ground/low ground aspect to the game.

could be a nice addition, but i think it should be something race-specific. maybe for the noxters, because they came from a nebula?

Tah, just program a nebula with the avoidme code to 0 and if there is a buffer code... clear it out. Then you got a nebula you can build in... ain't that hard.

What are you talking about gamer? he was suggesting it as a research for a race.

Don't the Borg build in Nebula's?

Well, nice idea. Maybe in future balancing updates there is a new resouce called "energy" that will limit the amount of defense stations you can build around a certain place. Maybe in a nebula you may build up "generators" or self-providing defense patterns that are for example immune to negative effects like shield drain. This could be interesting for certain maps, but will be useless if the enemy will simply avoid these. It is a nice idea but need a large amount of tweaking.

Maybe you can build up a 'generator', 'defense patterns' and some kind of support building... but the primary stations like starbases, shipyards and so on should stay in open space. Like the planetary Add-on on future releases maybe a nebula can give you also a bonus, but this is only a question of 'fine tuning' and shouldnt be a primary factor of the game.

Well, to me before they try adding another resource... I suggest that we get a race specific resource label going.

Like this is how things would be:

Feds:
- Dilithium
- Duranium
- Supplies

Klingons:
- Dilithium
- Tritanium
- Blood Wine

Romulans:
- Uronium (for their sigularity cores)
- Tritanium
- Cloak Field Emmiters

Borg:
- Gravimetric Nodes
- Defensive Nodes
- Distribution Nodes

Dominion:
- Uronium
- Dycanium (I can't seem to resist)
- Ketracel White

Notexer:
- Biomatter
- Biosteel
- Neural Nodes

The 'Energy' resource already exists in FO, it's just not used.

i dont really like the idea of different resources for all factions. because mostly they are already processed (like the nodes in your ideas, gamer) and it makes balancing more different.

Renamed metal or not, it's still an existing resource that isn't used, which is what I said.

I take it that you are talking about changing the denomination of the resources for every race, not changing the resources themselves. Else it wouldn't be possible to transfer resources betweeen allies of different races/factions in MP.

Adding different strings for naming the resources for every race doesn't sound like too hard to implement.

... I feel so... hijacked... :pinch:

Indeed Yandonman. I think that building in a nebula would be good... but not for any of the factions right now as that would certainly cause issues for them (can you imagine Feds building in Crystalid Nebulae or Borg building in Mutara... instant win). I think it would be most suitable for the Noxter, who already have some basis in using nebulae in the FO storyline.
