So i started thinking, and i thought, well shouldnt the ranges have effect on weaponry.

YouTube
- USS Enterprise (2009) fires phasers and photon torpedoes

that clip is one example of multiple types of weaponry we also saw this in tng, in the episode where picard gets turned into locutus.

Basically her is the thing, i dont think you can make a galaxy class or sovy, a long range or short range, however what i think you can do is stack multiple weapons, such as torps, phasers, (other stuff maybe) and make those effective at different ranges

for example a galaxy class approaches a warbird, as it closes in it starts to fire its pjhaser, as it gets closer phaser strength increases, but when it becomes very close accuracy falls off, during this it starts to fire torpedos, and then when it is really close it fires the red pulse that we saw in tng,

basically somthing like that, different weapons with different effectiveness and accuracy at different ranges, and those weapons activate depending on the range

thats the basic idea

Incidentally the D'deridex on officer rank has an ability just like this - dealing a good deal more damage at short range :). Similarly, several Dominion vessels have differential weapon ranges for torpedoes or pulses on the same ship. For the type of suggestion you are making though, it would require much more complex coding then the above two examples - and I think something that is planned down the road for some passives :)

Not sure what you mean by red pulse - I bet you are thinking of the harmless anti-matter spread or deuterium release though. In Star Trek almost all weapons have equally long range - in the order of 10's of thousands of kilometers.

yeah that red pulse was just to distract the cube while they did something more important elsewhere. locutus figured it out though i think. :P

He didn't, as far as I remember. Got in, got him, got out. It could only have been picked up by the Ion trail, which is why the Shuttle went in un-powered.

Antimatter spread = Sensor screwer.

i thought he saw the stardrive doing something. must have been earlier in the episode. maybe it was when he adapted the cube to the super beam. i wonder if that beam would be powerful against other targets, it was powerful enough to change worf's hair between episodes :P

They stole a DVD player from a passing Bolian freighter.

"We need their DVD things.  Stallone.  He is smart." :D

Maybe Rom would after all he bought the stem bolts.

Nah, Rom might not be smart outside of tech stuff, but even he's too smart for that.

yeah, nobody is stupid enough to pay money for stallone's work.

acutally i think something similar needed to be done for some long range vessels, because, since the short range assault crafts did get a very huge boost, there are a few long range vessels that totally suck right now. So it could help em if there weapons would have long range but get stronger on short range due the higher intensity that is required to fire at longer distances. So they are still slow and so on, but could at least finally give a good shot back.
