ah but thats not random, if u left your fleet out of sight of them and they found it with good scouting then they deserve the right to attack you. plus ur fleet can fire back. and you can scout their fleet, know it's coming, it's about skill in this case.

i get what you are saying.

but if you have a random occurence that does serious damage then all the problems i mentioned already happen such as lucky wins.

if u make it so that the damage done is really small and insignificant then what is the point of it? just a funny visual.

apparently using MMM this should be possible if not now then eventually

What im saying however, is part of fighting is adapting to your surroundings, a real battle is not going to be on a perfectly constructed area, with no natural occurences,

We see this in our own history and in star trek, for example the alamo.... and in star trek, nemesis they were in a nebula when fighting, so they couldnt call their fleet in to help them, in wrath of kahn they circled around a fricken planet for like a day

All im saying, is maybe have a few maps (test maps) that have random occurences, so that you have to best adapt to your surroundings, i think it would be at least somthing to try out, if possible

I like the realism in this idea.  I think it's time to add some randomness to the game.  Besides, it takes even more skill to control a fleet when you've got nebulae going all over the place.  Especially if one lands right on top of your base.  The only problem is, it would require quite a bit of coding in the ODFs and BZN files.

you really want a game of luck? imagine you are playing against a strong player, and winning, then a nebula destroys or damages your fleet and you lose. i bet you would be fuming.

Also think this is a bad idea.  Some people already don't like the random factor of warp-in, which isn't so bad, at the end of the day its 3 free ships, even 3 free sensor nebs (not possible) would be cool, although perhaps not what you were hoping for.

But moving map objects... not nice.

When the nebula comes, all I have to do is move my fleet.  Even if I did get mad about my fleet being destroyed, it would be realistic!  I would probably end up loosing anyways.

if u are not watching your fleet then ur fleet is screwed. what if u are building ships and microing miners.

if this was really realistic then building even 1 miner would take a month and romulans would have 3 ships and the game would be crap.

sometimes u have to abandon realism, in real battle some luck is involved. but in a game of skill introducing luck will just piss people off. and we might as well just flip a coin to decide the match and not bother playing.
