Movement During Combat Perhaps?

Not a big thing, just wondering if it would be possible to code this or put it into the ships movements.

When ships engage each other, instead of having them stand still and duke it out, would it be possible to give them certain movement styles to suit there class/size?

For instance, perhaps when a Dominion Jemhadar fighter engages enemy ships they charge and then circle the enemy or spiral. Or maybe the Defiant would strafe an enemy ship, attacking on one angle, then circle around to attack from a different angle.

Perhaps larger ships remain more stationary, but still move in parallel with the ship they are attacking, whereas smaller ships do some maneuvers that look pretty.

It isn't a big deal either way, but maybe if people like it. At the moment, I really enjoy watching the antics of the Avalons' fighters. It could affect hit chance or not. But just so its not large fleets beating it out standing still.

I know about tactics thing where you can tab multiple locations to have the ship move in more complex ways... but I was thinking something inherent in how a specific ship would do an attack.

Maybe give certain ships different priorities or something. Like if there is an engagement of multiple vessels, all ships that are Akira size and up would engage a single vessel, where as smaller vessels like intrepids or Kvorts would move and attack various ships.

I dunno, if something in there sounds interesting I think it might be neat.

Sounds like the attack patterns from the stock game. I think modifications will be made to those in the future.

HMmmmmm...... Thats An Intresting concept, and frankly, something(And probably the only thing) i miss off of stock A2. If it is a reailty, battles like the one in first contact will be a reallity.

I'm gonna have to go back and play some stock A2, don't remember that part of it so much.

I only played to the point where I beat the campaign, and a few Instant Actions. Then switched over FO, just got the game back in August or so.

Absolutely, if we get a Command Cube, having ships circle it and all will certainly make for a pretty show. Or having a command cube, with two spheres and couple other borg ships. If you got a good sized fleet, could have a bunch of the smaller ones shifting from the cube to the spheres and mixing up the damage dealt.

To me this sounds more like the A2-physics-project and battle movement like in Sins of a Solar Empire, where capital ships turn their strongest weapons towards their priority-targets (like the Advent-carrier or the Akkan; Turning their side towards the target to fire broadsides)

Well, really, I just want to watch the ships do something other than stay and shoot.

And who doesn't love the seen from first contact, and other scenes, where ships are moving and shooting?

Well, from a multiplayer perspective, we generally don't want to have our ships stop anyway, we keep them moving.  This is especially true of weaker ships like bugs, because they're really effective if they're on the move.  So you can do a lot of what you're saying already with movement.  I guess what you're asking is in AI games if the AI can be a little bit more lively, to give you a reason to move your ships a bit.  At that point, I think we can all agree that the AI needs an overhaul, but this will take a lot of time from what I understand.
