More options Star Base

Post ideas and suggestions on new features or improvements here.

Currently there are a few vessels constructed at a Star Base: Construction, mining and scouts. Since the Star bases are by far the most powerful structures in FO it seems like a waste not to make more use of the extensive facilities there.

Proposal: Add construction of additional small vessels to star base (e.g. runabout class) and place some research facilities.

Additional vessels would spice up early combat ingame.

To be honest, I think it is unnecessary  :sweatdrop: . We have enough units currently, and I wouldn't want to take away from the Klingons unique shipyard/Kahless station hybrid :)

thats a good point. i want to add more "hybrid" functionality to starbase for the klingons either way :D

That sounds excellent! Perhaps giving them some sort of add on which costs some funds, where you could either do research or build perhaps some early Battleyard units? Perhaps Sang' or other destroyer sized vessels?

Oddly enough, I'm gonna suggest this for the starbase...

The ability to just outright build K'tinga.  Either cheaper or faster than Tompey, without taking away the Tompey's ability to throw off the containers.  I wouldn't say to upgrade the K'tinga really, other than maybe giving them access to some kind of torpedo launcher (even if it sucks, it just seems wrong for them not to have one).  Really, it's scrambling the old goats in their ancient ships for one last glorious battle.  And maybe, just maybe, they'll take some people with them to Sto'vo'kor...or Gre'thor, depending on their quality.

Micro-Photon, I think. I haven't built one for a while. Not much of a boost to its offence, but still a boost at least.

That was removed after 3.0PR, for good reason (as explained in the backstory of the K't'inga and K'beajQ) :P

I came on board for 3.0, so I missed the days of being able to do that.

It just seems...fitting for them to be able to.  It goes hand in hand with the continued use of the B'rel.  If you can best your foe in a small, underpowered ship, more glory to you!  Too small, though, and you can't really claim the kill (which is why I don't think Klingons would use fighters.  Any 'fighters' they used, I think would be designed exclusively to go past shields, and board the vessel for the glory of personal combat.)

I have 3 ideas.

1: Give the Starbase a 'support' radius. Like adgacency (spelling?) bonuses. Say if a resource drop off is in the radius it either drops off quicker or adds say 20% more to the stockpile. Ship yards gat a 5-10% build speed increase. Research happens faster. But make the Radius narrow and mabye Avatar specific on its effects.


2: Modile Main bases, it can latch itself onto ships and get towed to new locations.

3: Allow resource collectors to drop off on the starbase... its costs to upgrade the starbase with the facility but spawns 2 collectors, and ONLY they go to the starbase, they can mine even while others are mining... sort as a late game boost.

I like this idea, because think about it. at a star base there is a bunch of people sitting around at desks doing nothing. now we can put them to work to doing administration stuff to make things around the starbase happen more efficently

not quite sure what your saying, but if you mean your normal starbase moving around, i think that would be bad because it would be a giant weapons platform that could move and people would spam with them and that would be very bad!

as for the 3rd idea it would be nice to have an armed refinery, but would it actualy be fair?

If one was to make the Star base Mobile  I suggest It must have sheilds and weaponds deactivated  for  1 minute before moveing and 2 minutes After arriving .    The travel speed shall be  half the  rate of the slowest ship that the  race has .Also  give a random chance for a total systems failure or  catrosrophic  loss of the  station .  doing so would limit it being a mobile Weaponds platform yet  on a larger map give the ability to  locate its self closer to the  new area of operations . as for the  ability of a starbase  to process raw material processing ability . I  think If  it was to be  granted it should be at the half rate of other  mining facilities .  no upgrades till  at least 4 other mining facilities were built .
