Personally I believe that there have been many great designs in the Federaion. I was simply wondering if we could have some more Mark Twos.

Basically older designs that I think may have an interesting look if to have a MK II out of them. You can choose up to 3 of them. I will not give out concepts since it will be all up to the developers.

A Saladin with two nacelles next to each other. (Which the Saladin was the predecessor to the Freedom Class)

Yeah, I simply wanted to know what the community would like. And maybe the devs opinions on what they'd like out of the bunch.

I voted for the Centaur-II. I would like to see the old Centaur ingame a lot more, though because the MKII would probably get those ugly impulse engines at its saucer then  :(.

I guess this vessel:
U.S.S. Swiften Orthos

Actually the Ambassador already had a refit (the Enterprise C was the only one not refitted) so that would be the "Mk 2". If we would go for a FO timeline Ambassador that would be the Mk III

If we go by the nomenclature used here:
FEDERATION STARFLEET

The Ambassador 2 was a rare refit with lower nacelles for a more stable warpfield while the better know Yamaguchi refit is actually the Ambassador "Mk. 3"

On top of this there is the Ex Astris Scientia - Himalaya Class :)

Anyone keeping taps here?

Edit: Considering the age of the basic designs in the FO timeline i think only the Ambassador and Centaur would be used in a refit. The only vessel which is not buildable and which "could" be used for a refit is the Galaxy class.

This last option is not likely to find entry since its direct replacement the Sovereign is ingame.

Edit 2: I like this vessel:

In the Fleet Operations universe "-II" versions are relatively rare. This nomenclature was only used for some very popular chassis which were developed at the same studios as their original versions and were made to actually replace their predecessor or fullfill the same roles in the fleet. Ships like the Okinawa do ofcourse have some common Starfleet design elements, but they are independent chassis which share only a few aspects with other starships. The Excelsior is not called Constitution-II for example, although they share a lot in their general design.
There will be one or two additional "-II" versions in the not-so-distant future, but besides the Excelsior-II, none made it into the regular ranks of Starfleet. Mixed-Tech-Laboratories or certain Admirals could still grap a few of them for modifications :whistling:

Why do we need more "Mk IIs"? Why not just invent a completely new ship? I know that's easier said than done from the dev's point of view, ship designs are hard, especially good ones, but I don't think Starfleet would do nothing but haul out old designs all the time. I can see why the Excelsior or Miranda are good candidates, both classes have served well dispite being out dated, but the Constellation or Constitution classes? As far as we know, they didn't see the same kind of extended service, nor did the Ambassador which was quickly replaced by the Galaxy.

So, while it might be interesting to see 24th century versions of some of these ships, I don't think it should be used as a way to make new ships for the sake of making new ships.

yep, thats a good point to. Adding completely new ships although gives us the opportunity to try new designs and gameplay characteristics. Like the Quantum Phaser or a Pulse-Based Starfleet ship like the Okinawa. The "-II" prefix is only used rarely in Fleet Operations, to honor a popular class (like the excelsior and miranda)

Why refit a ship instead of designing a new one. If a ship class in Star Trek has a solid design (and a fan base) it would be nice to see more refits (or "Mk II)

The Steamrunner is an example of a good ship design. In canon ST it is a destroyer/light cruiser replaced by the Saber. In FO it is the most capable artillery ship the Federation has.

Having said that, i would like to see a refit to bring a steamrunner back in its original role.
This is an interesting fan based refit:

The Galaxy, come to think of it, is a good example of what modern navies do for a '-II' design.  It looks very similar to an Ambassador, but is MUCH larger.  Does the same job, but does it better.  And does some other jobs too.

Take, for example, the change from Forrestal-class carrier to Kitty Hawk-class carrier to USS Enterprise to Nimitz-class carrier.

Bigger, bigger, bigger...

(Sidenote, the real USS Enterprise is scheduled for decommission in 2013.)
