Mixed-Tech Thoughts in 1v1 etc

As we all know, mixed-tech in 1v1 and in multiplayer games (2v2 etc) is extremely limited and you either get access to it immediately (2v2 etc) or almost never (1v1). This is because Mixed Tech is obtained by capturing constructors. Even if Mixed-Tech were to get its own tech tree and require you to capture stations as has been proposed before (aka, your opponent's yard or research facility) that still does not make mixed-tech more useful. By the time you capture a station, it will usually be game over anyway since almost all yards and research stations stay by a the main base.

So, why not move some mixed-tech benefits to more commonly captured things - units and structures that do not finish off a game? Aka, you can get access to some ships by capturing a freighter, construction ship, refinery (mining dock) - or even a battleship  :D

This would encourage more boarding actions, and not just mindless destruction. Not to mention, it creates a real tech tree, where mixed-tech awards get better with increasingly difficult ships to capture. Perhaps a V-13 Dreadnought is only received when you capture a large sized yard for instance, whereas a E'Djen only requires you to capture an opponent's mining dock.

Oh, and of course, if your ally builds these vessels/yards/stations, you can gain access to the mixed tech as well. Perhaps however, it requires a "purchase button" so that you cannot gain them instantly when your ally builds the required unit. :)

Some more ideas. Perhaps if derelicts from "destroyed" ships can be added every once in a while, you might gain some technologies randomly by "collecting" them :)

  I like the inter-weaving idea of having this function both support mixed-tech and boarding at the same time.  I think we'd see a much stronger use of troopships if boarding meant more than just "HAHAHAH I stole your F*cking ship, bitch!"

How about an experience system for capturing? To get access to the different shiptechs you need to take over 5-10-15 ships of the enemy...no matter what type of ship.

Ohhh, so mixed tech could be like a resource? That's cool. Let's say mixed tech of 5 is needed for a certain vessel and 10 for the most powerful like the v-15. Capturing ships increases the tech level. Each vessel depending on it's tech level could have a value assigned to it:

constructor-0.5
miner-0.5
saber-1.0
akira- 3.0
defiant- 5.0
sovereign-6.0

capturing multiple vessels increases the mixed tech level and higher value vessels increase the tech level by larger amounts. These numbers are only examples but a system like this wod definaty encourage boarding and bring mixed tech into the game as more than just a bonus. What ya think of this idea?

And the Borg could get a Defense Bonus vs assimilated races. Like each ship brings 1% damage reduction

  How about getting access to mix-tech units based on your actual research status ? I mean, with most mix-tech yards, you can build destroyers, cruisers and battleships. You will be able to build them from mix-tech yard, without prior research, after you researched the equivalent from your own tech tree.  :woot: Of course in a 1 vs 1 game, you will have to capture a constructor first, but in 2 vs 2 or more games, you can build them right from the start.

If you capture a starbase, we really should be able to build constructors of that race. You could just take the race prestique off of constructors to make that feasible (Not that it would make it easier, I just think it would make sense and be fair.)

The 1v1 mixed-tech ideas are great.

When you think about the galaxy class separation, I think the devs have said that it will only be used as an escape vehicle, and if you can get it sent back to a shipyard, the stardrive section could be rebuilt.

It that becomes possible coding-wise in the future, it might not be too difficult to make it possible to send back captured ships to a shipyard, which could give you a button to build an upgraded version of a current ship, ala the mixed-tech yards, but without the extra yard (or a special, universal mixed-tech yard specifically for this purpose.)

So yeah, I agree with Dom and Galefury actually. You probably shouldn't be able to build mixed-tecvh battleships before normal battleships etc

It would be easy to add the normal techup requirements to mixed-tech ships, but you'd need avatar specific versions of the yards and all MT ships. Well, the rank 1 versions.
