After playing a good bit of the storyline of Bridge Commander, I got to the point where I had to destroy Cardassian-Kessok Hybrid starships. That made me think: It seems like a good idea for FO's Mixed-Tech concept. As I understand it, SFC III had a station that both the Federation and the Klingons worked on together to signify the accomplishment their friendship had taken them. Obviously, in FO's case, you get mixed-tech by either allying yourself with the AI, or capturing an enemy construction ship.
It might be interesting to see what kinds of hybrids could be concepted for this. I myself tried to draw one that stuck out in my mind, a fusion between a Negh'Var and a Sovereign, but with my crappy drawing skills, I feel too ashamed to even post it up here for possible inspiration to modelers out there.
What do you guys think? I hope this idea isn't another one that I think is unique, but turns out to have been shot down many times before.

It would be very tough to get a design like that which actually works... they would most likely look like they were drawn by a blind guy drawing with his feet.
The Cardassian/Kessok hybrid and Unity station work, though the FO version of Unity need serious work...

Iss_Enterprise_D: did you mean this just as a new idea of what ships from mixed tech would look like? If so, I think that's a pretty neat idea, as well as one that is currently being implemented - at least that's the idea behind why the Miranda II, E'Djen, and Saeihrr look the way they do
. More ships are also going to have neat looking "mixed-looks" too as far as I know

I'm not saying this should be implemented ASAP. Something like this would take a good amount of time to concept in a pleasable manner. I honestly can't think of some other design instead of my weird Neggie-Sovvie Hybrid. This is one of those things thats like, "Hey, this is something definately do, but right now its too much work to get it done right. Let's save this for the future." This point in time is too soon for something like this to be implemented. I'm just throwing out ideas that would be pretty cool to see in the future
Yeah, thats actually the plan. I mean, having the same vessel chassis with different abilities is pretty cool, but I believe its a better idea to have different ship designs to really signify mixed-tech. Just having multiple versions of the same ship just feels like stamping new names on things, quite honestly. Even though its rather hard, I look forward to being able to capture a dominion construction ship just for the Miranda-II, and perhaps if I really need it, the upgraded storage space Mandril.

This would be pretty interesting if done right. I've also done some mixed race sketches, but I don't think mine are good enough to post either.
It would really help you to tell your mixed tech ships apart from the standard versions without having to hover over them to get a tool tip. In the mean time, I think that adding an icon that indicates mixed tech like the rank icons indicate rank would also help to tell them apart.

I think the result would be similar to these. I definitely like the Idea.

I can envision a Sovereign with an opening for a big disruptor beam on the "ten forward" part of the saucer section.

Definitely some cool ideas and designs in this thread if I might say so

Is that third one fed/breen? It looks awesome! Not to mention the courageous, which I've always been in love with...

If Ten Forward was the absolute tip in the front of the Sovereign's hull, then that sounds similar to Sov-Neg hybrid I had invisioned. Instead of just an opening for it though, it would mainly be the longer part of the Neg, which is more or less, I believe, the main area where the disruptor is fired from up front.

I'd like to see more true cooperation in technology.
E.g. a b'rel with federation shields/phaser strips.
A saber dropping cloaked mines

I agree. I think Mixed tech should still be mixed tech, and not go overpoard. Like Andre said, a b'rel with phaser strips would be cool. Actually I only see the federation modeling their ships after another races, in order to counter them.
the borg adapt, and assimilate,
the romulans maybe...
dominion have a god complex, and would not care,
klingons would see no honor in it, unless it was just weapon tech as spoils of war
