Hi there.
Do you ever wanted to get a mixed tech design from another race?

For example: When I played the dominion I thought about getting a Miranda MK II. There is no way on getting your hands on it, until the enemy will build such a ship and you are able to capture it.

So, I thought about that:
When you capture an enemy shipyard (try it) you are not able to build ships of the enemy tech tree, but you are able to buil mixed tech design that compares to your own.

So when you capture a federation shipyard an are a dominion player, you get your hands on the miranda MK II.
If you are klingon and capture a dominion shipyard, you may get an advanced A-26 bomber - for your klingon empire.

So you are not only able to build mixed tech designs for yourself in your tech tree, you are also able to capture enemy mixed tech designs.
So you might even be able, to build the dominion dreadnought.

The other way around: You build with the captured construction ship a "federation" shipyard, not only a mixed tech shipyard, or you combine it. This should be restricted to some values, I think, but this is a nice idea.

Interesting suggestion, but I think the idea behind Mixed Tech was to show you that it is the constructors that have the ship data, not the construction yards and thus when you steal a constructor you get access to some of the designs to allow you to build your own enhanced vessels. Hence the only thing that captured yards can be used for are repair... I do like the idea of being able to get *some* sort of vessel from a captured yard... maybe the most basic ship ... or maybe a random ship design would be uploaded into the yard's computer... but I could live without it too  :sweatdrop:

Enemy ship with mixed-tech bonuses and your Empire's name? Like a Saber Class with Federation/Klingon mixed weapons and specials and a Klingon name.

Would it be difficult to have yards switch to replace it's list with the vessels from one of your own yards? The way a Constructor's list is replaced with a Mixed-tech yard...

Hmmm... one question is why only 3 classes have mixed tech per race? Why not 4 or 5?

I think it is because Mixed Tech is not supposed to be the focus of gameplay, so a few limited options is best (you are supposed to rely on your native tech, not the alien enhanced vessels).

yep we are working on a redo of mixed tech, but thats planed for the future.
I dont think you will be able to build alien designs, as thats the main point why we introduced mixed-tech in the first place ^-^

I have a Question If the mixed Tech uses Basically the same yard frame  why not allow one to have multiple  mixtech  options . If you were playing Dominion and captured  a Fed constructor you build the yard. then at a later date you capture a Klingon constructor why not add it to the mixtech yard as a module . but still  you have to research the mixed tech research.Doing so could give  one a multiple of options. You would keep the  single type of mixed tech yard for all of the  captured types but the ship  build list would be available for all captured constructer races. The reason is When playing aginst aginst  multiple AI opponents I tend to try to capture  the constructers . After the first yard is built can't  easily make any other mixed tech ships from the newest captured ship. would be nice to be able to  do so. I have done it a few timed  by making theyard ,but not reasearching the mixtech part. when I had all the races on the map present. I researched  the mixed tech all at the same time.

Maybe I don't understand you very well... but you only need research the "Analyze Alien Technology" once to gain access to all of your opponent's mixed tech vessels. You will still need to create additional yards however (seems logical to me, as each would be outfitted with different technology applicable to the faction in question).

After the first mixed tech yard is built is not all other mixed tech yards locked out  from  being built?

Nope :)
(I mean, you still have to capture/ally the required faction's construction ships of course)

Ok I'll try again but several times before did that and  was locked out  of using  other races mixed tech after  the first mixed Tech yard was built . Even after I had catpured  other  ships from other races and built the approiate mixed tech yard.

Hmm, I've never had that happen before...  :sweatdrop:

i think i understand what Pappy is trying to say.

If you are the Feds and you have a Rom Ally, you can use YOUR fed constructor to build a Rom Mixed tech yard.

however, once you capture a Klingon constructor, you still cant build a mixed tech yeard with your fed constructor, you HAVE TO USE the CAPTURED klingon constructor.

if you loose it, your S.O.L.

i think the question is...  why once you capture a new ship, why cant you use your own ships to build said new enemy mixed tech yard.

maybe i'm reading it all wrong but that is how i'm seeing the question.  Personally, i like the way it is.  i mean it sux, but it makes the game chalenging  :D

isn't that why we are all here?

The 'Ally' and 'Capture' yards use different odf's, so the entry in the Constructor is different.
