Mercenaries

I know this feature is on todo, just wanted to post my idea of it.

You start a game, build a base and decide you need some extra forces. You click on an icon just below your avatar icon in the upper left and are presented with a menu. The menu lists several icons on the left and stats on the right; these are the available mercenaries. You select one (perhaps ferengi), ask for ships, and tell them where you want the ships to arrive (by clicking in the view where you want them). The necessary goods are deducted from your account and about half a minute later, you see a bunch of ships ( i could see up to 8-16 depending on the merc) warp into your location and lets you assume control.
The other scenario:
It's late in the game and your forces arent getting anywhere; you need that extra bit of oomph to crack the enemy base. You pop open the aforementioned mercenary menu and select a different mercenary (say breen) and request to be an ally. After about half a minute, you see a construction ship warp into a spot near the one you selected, build a starbase, and warp out. You gain control of the starbase which can produce constructors that will build shipyards and defense outposts (thats just the breen, different mercs could offer different stuff to build).

* With merc ships, if you get a double-gold-bar ship, it will immediately warp out and an unveteraned ship will warp in.
* If the hull strength or crew complement of a merc ship drops to 10 percent or below, it will warp out "for repairs"
* if a merc station was captured, it costs you half of the resources that it took to build it
* if you capture a merc station, you get half of the resources it took to build it
* if a merc station is destroyed, the proper race merc construction ship will warp in, build a replacement, and warp out.

I believe the aforementioned merc station is going to be a map object similar to CNC mercs.

I would like to see this idea combined with the idea for the Salvage Yard/ships.

Perhaps the mercenary yard could be a neutral map base that scours the map for derelicts and then sells them to you at a lower price than value of each ship (the price good vary based on the condition of the ships on sale). If you destroy mercenary ships then they will increase the price or just refuse to sell to you in the first place (if you are Borg then I guess they'll just outright refuse trade with you but you could gain a bonus for assimilating them, to balance it out.)
