I'm new to this place (and the mod, I've only played feds and klingons yet) so if this has already been talked about or implemented I'm sorry for bringing it up again.
I don't know how the program running in the back really works but could it replace the AI files with specific AI files right before a map loads? (and of course detect which map is run and replace the right AI files) Then you would be able to make AI files that take the environment more into account. (for instance build loads of resource collectors/stations when you have loads of resources available and of course up the production of ships accordingly)
Also in the AI files the positions of the moons get numbers, I don't know in which file the AI is told to make up these positions but what if you could instruct the AI to detect a third "moon" (aside from dilitium and tritanium moons) Make that moon something invisible and passable. Then when constructing a map you can put these moons at strategic points and in the map specific AI you can tell the AI what to build there, for instance a base and defenses at choke points.
