Manual Targetting for Guided Quantums

Post ideas and suggestions on new features or improvements here.

I love the manual targetting special, i think that other races should get a sniff of it, not much just a little sniff.

so my idea is that when guided quantums is activated, risner's vet excel 2 gets manual targetting when guided quantums special is on.

mayson already has ACS torps so he doesnt get manual targetting.

and risner only gets it for vet e2, only when the special is activated.

and its less effective than klink's manual targetting, keeping the ships visible for 5 seconds.

some people complain that guided quantums is weak, i disagree, i love the special, but this would add to it a little more.

I don't like it.  :sweatdrop: Feds already get their unique cloak detection system, and I prefer to associate one form of cloak detect with each faction. Klingons have low cost, low maintenance cloak-detection. Feds like their high tech sensors.  ^-^

I could see the feds setting up the tachyon grid like they did in the series, where it only detects cloaked vessels passing between members of a fleet that is doing it, though.  That could be interesting.

A vet Risner E-2?  :ermm:  :o

I agree with Dom that Feds shouldn't have Klingon cloak detect. If Feds do get a torpedo-tagging cloak detect it could be on the Torp Neb, but that might cause balancing issues due to chances that you'll get no torp nebs or that you'll get too many and the cloaks won't stand a chance.

They definitely need better cloak detect than they have right now, with Ventures becoming completely immobile for half a minute, if you don't tag the cloaked fleet with that first ping you probably will have wasted the ability, and it takes a bit to recharge (also you can't use the ability immediately after getting to 35 energy, some kind of cooldown activates and you have to click again after the few seconds it takes the special icon to refill.)

A cool idea, but in FO the tachyon pings are a more advanced version of that.

risner's e2 is useful, even if people seem to think only mayson's is worth it. now risner's e2 will have a nice thing, like mayson's ACS

they dont need better cloak detect, ventures are already useful. my suggestion gives very little cloak detect, only on veterans, only when acs is triggered. that doesnt actually change much.

the venture is awesome. the 2nd 2 pings are not as useful as the first obviously. but you can build several ventures as they are cheap and come from the starbase and dont clog up shipyard queues.

and u can recharge them in 1 shot from the norway. i keep a norway and a venture aside as a mobile cloak detect. every 30 seconds u can scan a new area.

Unfortunately only Mayson gets the Norway. Risner players have to sit and wait while the Venture recharges (I usually play Risner for the reduced cost on chassis that allows me to get early SFC without sacrificing ship production.)
The main reason I don't think Ventures are good enuff is that, unlike a Talon refit, you can't move the ship around while it pings. Talon refit and Dominion sensor stations absolutely rock, but if the Venture is in the slightly wrong position when it pings then you can say goodbye to catching that fleet.
The net method in TNG at least could continue to detect cloaks as it moved around, it would actually be better than Venture pings if you had even an early game fleet.

Massing Ventures is good, but you will need a whole lot of them to find cloak fleets that could be hiding just off a little ways from your expansion, and intel report costs a bit too much to be useful until very late game with lots of extra res.

finding fleets that havnt just made their location known (ie via a battle) should be hard. even talons arent that easy to find fleets. and the talon will just get eated if u send it out alone.

even with risner, build 2 or 3 ventures and pay attention to their charge and u should always have 1 charged at the end of a battle, when the enemy cloaks and runs u can move it in. even 1 kill is nice, as the venture ability only costs time.

Indeed Myles - there will be more of a cat and mouse aspect of cloaking in future patches, but cloaking is supposed to remain powerful. Of course, that doesn't mean that you shouldn't have the ability to spot badly placed cloaked fleets and target some cloak-and-run ships, but cloak won't be some easily discoverable thing as it was in 3.0.0-3.1.1 either. I have no doubt that through online experience we'll undoubtedly find a nice balance over the next few patches  B)

The other thing to consider Neb is that ventures are about half the cost of a refitted talon, and you can control when the ping occurs, whereas with the Talon you have to hope you are in the right spot when the ping goes off.

Even cheaper than that in fact  :sweatdrop:
