I was reading about the FO Avatar Updates and i saw something about a long range scan, and i thought wouldnt a long range scan weapon for some ship or something be cool where it uncovers shroud for a good chunk of the map but leaves fog (but maybe its vice versa), and then i thought what about having "short range sensors" and "long range sensors" where the long range ones can detect ships coming (perhaps in a ping-like manner) and uncover fog(shroud) and the short range ones give visibility and allow you to see what ships are coming. What do you guys think of that?

Ehhh.... the feds are strong enough, the Rommies get some thing like that already. How about something for the Klingons? Maybe they can have a Subspace Array that can do that.

Proper Longe range Sensors would most likely cover the entire map...

The Klingons seem to prefer having patrols and scouts, rather than impersonal sensors.  Perhaps a way to just mass-produce their little scoutship...

This idea reminds me of the massive Sensor Array the Dominion used during the War...

Oh! Yeah! Its the 3rd or 4th Mission in Dominion Wars! A sensor array that can detect all ships cloaked or uncloaked throughout 6 sectors. You had to go in with the Defiant using a modded Cloaking tech to destroy the Array and its protecting OWPs.

ACTUALLY  :woot:  come to think of it,  if you all re-watch the DS9 episode,  TRIALS and Tribulations,  on the defiant pannel, they show HOW the constitution class sensors worked.  (appeareantly, that so and so Rick Berman decided they needed to decloak to transport for that episode)  anyways.  it showed the ole constitution class had a dual (whatever) scanning system.  the first one simply eminated out from the ship (like the fed probe ships cloak detector) or dropping a pebble in a pond and watching the ring spread out.  where as the LONG range sensors was a significantly narrower beam, that shot straight in front of the ship.  it would be like 4 times the width of the ship and go HALF as far as the probe does.
