Could the D'Kora class that come to salvage ship be given a rare variant with a golden hull?

In the Voyager episode 'Inside Man', the Ferengi suggested buying a ship with a Latinum-plated hull with the money gained from Sevens Borg nanites. Showing off your wealth in such a fashion is perfectly in character, and was implied to be possible in canon.

Latinum is actually silver though...it's only suspended in gold...

What color are bricks and strips of latinum?

it would have to be plated in the gold to encase the latinum though.

Plating the hull with a liquid would be quite difficult, which is likely why the Ferengi specified a Gold-pressed Latinum plated hull. That would imply they meant the golden version.

Bricks and strips of gold-pressed latinum are gold...the latinum itself is silver as seen in the DS9 episode "Who Mourns for Morn"...

As I said in my last post, they specified GPL not regular latinum alone. Mentioning Latinum-plated at all automatically implies the metallic version.

I know what latinum is like without the gold; I pretty much digested MA long ago.

Heh, yeah you ninja'd me and I couldn't be bothered to edit my post  :sweatdrop:

Haven't watched that episode of Voyager in a while, didn't recall if they specified gold-pressed or not, I was just nitpicking lol

well i think this would be silly. i think they might have meant latinum plated shuttles, as a dkora covered in it would be stupidly expensive, those are comparable in size to a galaxy lol.

latinum itself is a thick liquid at room temp in quarks bar. space is cold, so at space temps latinum would be solid.

gold is always solid and latinum could be suspended between two layers of gold to be plated on a hull.

how strong is gold against solar radiation? or weapons fire lol. or even docking with stations and friendly ships.

we dont know how strong latinum is, but i doubt its that strong.

They were getting Borg nanites and suggested a GPL-plated ship with enough left over for an entire fleet of casino ships, giving the impression they were talking about something expensive with how they spoke of it; the style of "We can by X and still have enough for Y after!".

Being 'stupidly expensive' is the entire point; it's to show-off how wealthy they are. It's not meant as armor, and goes over that. We are talking about the Ferengi, here.

well about 100 bricks (bigger than a bar) of latinum contained so little latinum, it barely filled the bottom of that glass morn spit it out into. so 1000 bricks wouldnt cover a shuttle unless they made it so thin that its laughable as plating it with latinum lol. it probably wouldnt even be visible.

and a dkora would probably require millions, maybe billions of bars (smaller than bricks) and when q mentioned a million bars quark practically jizzed his ferengi suit and fainted as if such money is more than even the richest people have. like how can he have that much money? i doubt anyone has enough latinum to cover a ship of the size of a dkora. plus a bit of light weapons fire from a person who doesnt like you and massive amounts of your wealth is gone lol.

i think the reference in the show was silly.

They were talking about Seven's Nanite as if getting them was on the same level as getting the entire contents as Fort Knox. How much it would take didn't seem to concern them, as they expected the price of Borg Nanites to get them enough to plate a ship and buy a fleet.

Though, he never specified have the entire ship plated over. He could quite easily have intended to have only enough plated to show off he's rich enough to line the ship with it, eventually looking like a veteran K'beajQ.

You're also arguing about the illogic and silly decisions of a Ferengi...

nanites are expensive yes, but following from my numbers argument above, i doubt there is enough privately owned latinum to coat a dkora.

if u drop down to partially coating then it becomes feasible. so it could have some silver/gold panels.

these would still present a bullseye target for business opponents though, wipe out your money by shooting your ship :D

Or steal the ship and get the money for yourself.....

Anyway, Quark was selling latinum-plated pens at some point...MA speculates that latinum alloys could exist, maybe a D'Kora could be plated with one of these?
