The Birok-class strike ship: An older vessal, also relativly small, but armed with a shocking amount of torpedos, while maintaining a minimal crew (roughly 1/8th of a K'vort's).

The ship has been fairly well introduced in the books, most notably the IKS Ch'marq which fought against general Talak at San-Tarah, and was destroyed in that encounter. The mission of this particular topic is to settle on a design. I have come up with a few contenders:

Image
Contender #1: A design along the K't'inga lineage, commisioned shortly before the Vor'cha-class became the standard design. I was mostly fazed out, but was pressed into service for the Dominion War. The design preformed suprisingingly well, and a good number survived, so instead of being rendered inactive again, the design was kept in serice as a support ship.

Contender #2: A direct contemporary of the Vor'cha, this design marked another direction which Klingon shipbuilding could have taken. Although the ship distinguished itself against the Kreel and Kinshaya, the Vor'cha, however, gained promonence, and was accepted as the standerd.

Contender #3: A major departure from Klingon shipbuilding tradition, it was very hard to push through the High Council, as the Klingons are not a very "experimenting" people. Eventually, it did get through, and enjoyed a full production run. The design, however, never fell into favor with the high council, because of its radical nature.

Contender #4: A design commisioned shortly after the Vor'cha, it attempted to capitalize on it's predacessor's resounding success. However, it failed. Shortly after the the design's completion, war broke out with the Kinshaya. The entire production run was pushed forward exponentialy to meet this new threat. The first battle in which these ships played a major role was a resounding defeat for the Klingons. Although this was mainly due to the ineptness of the Klingon commander, the Birok was used as a scapegoat, and has never recovered.

NOTE: The reason this is not a poll is because a poll could never summarize the number of veiwpoints of such an in-depth issue.

the first one i thought was a concept scetch of a k'tinga. the last one is... ok(although the head looks slightly off). But the rest... er... hmmm... TO THE BIN WITH YOU :P .

You asked for original designs, yet those are the ones you complain about!!! SHOULD I JUST STICK TO THE KITBASHED ONES?!?!

read my post carefully before ranting, i said the middle 2 sucked. the first is a k'tinga looking thing, so you cant really say thats original. the second basically IS a kitbash of a Vor'cha, like i said it looks ok, just could use some polishing.

its just those middle 2,

so to conclude: the last one seems to be the most likely contender seeing as it looks the most advanced, the others seem to look TMP era.

Okay, I may have overreacted a bit.

Anyway, I chose to include the first one bnot because it looks like a K't'inga, but because it looks like an advanced K't'inaga, an improvement over an existing design, which is, essetially, how the Klingons handle ship designing: "use what 'ya got".

The last one is, literally, a kitbash, and a good one at that.

Contender #4 is the best design of the Bunch (Contender #1 is a close second, but #4 is the better of the 2).
