Could be, but they probably keep the modles that they have.

I think it would be cool to see some of the older ships each raced have been using for a long time. This mod has all the newer ships but the mirandas, D-7s and other varients are conspicuously absent. Be nice to see the older designs fight along side their newer counterparts.

Only as non buildable is my opinion.

Hundreds of ships older then 50 years served in the Dominion War in the Federation of Planets and Klingon Empire. I think they could still serve a purpose in this mod by maybe automatically transporting repair crews to the newer ships or maybe some having a Special Energy recharger or something that an old Support Vessel would do. In the DW, Miranda classes for instance were used to carry extra torpedos and supplies to give to other vessels in case they ran short.

I agree with you that Mirandas and other old ships took part in the Dominion War, but they were also cannon fodder. Dominion and Cardassian vessels annihilated most of the Federation's stock of Mirandas and Excelsiors. In all of the Dominion War episodes of DS9 that contained Battles, at least 1 Excelsior and 1 Miranda were destroyed. However, you should be able to warp them in at SF Command. They would be support ships for the fleet, like TMP Rules said. It wouldn't be unbalanced if you give the Klingons some D7s, and the Romulans some old Birds of Prey.

I think that old ships should be available only as non-buildable. Maybe like lost derelicts (but still usable) on some maps. But it could also play some role in the upcoming single player missions.

So Optec, what destiny shall have old type of class starships in Fleet Ops (if any)?

I Hope they're hireable...

Everyone seems so down on using them, they have as much right to fly as any other ship.

mh, i think of old vessels as derelicts on the scrapyard tileset

Im not saying there shouldnt be broken ones too, in fact a level where theres a junkyard with alot of old broken up ships would be neat.

The Federation has, as we all know, organized junkyards that are not aftermaths of some battles. It is a common thing to reactivate vessels from the junkyards if Starfleet is in desperate need of more ships.

So you could make an NPC station called "Junkyard Control" or something like that and let it be belonging to different races.

If you are playing the race the station belongs to, you could reactivate vessels by hireing them from the station. If you are playing a different race, you have to destroy or take over the station before you can get the ships floating in the backyard of it.

What about this?

I would like to see old federation, romulan and klingon ships as maybe hireable or derlicts in the game. Like the klingon D-7 or the old Romulan BOP. The federation miranda class would be cool to see in the game but somewhat unrealistic because all the mirandas were either destoried (via borg attacks or dominion war) or were retired from service. Then were taken apart to build some of the newer classes. But they still look pretty cool.
