Hey so Im relatively new to fleet ops but I really like where it is going and had a few ideas that maybe someone could use for mods or later releases or what not.
First of all I was thinking about a different dynamic that allows you to start the game with a "flagship" which is determined by the avatar you chose and as the flagship levels up "Starfleet" (or Klingon Empire or 'insert faction command here' gives you access to more blueprints, special moves, research etc. sorta like a A2-style RPG. And if the flagship gets Destroyed it can be rebuilt at the starbase after a long CD timer, Or maybe that could be a victory condition.
I have a few other ideas like a refit station where you can dock a ship and change the armament and defences of a particular ship similar to building borg vessels. I also thought it would be cool to have starbases have an upgrade option to add a fighter bay.
Not sure if any of these ideas are appealing to anyone but me, or if they are even doable so any C&C would be great!

The first idea has been brought up several times and is implemented as Veteran vessels. Those ships represent hero ships and also deserve that name.
Fighters on a station is a nice idea, I could imagine that for Feds or Romulans(I still want to see Scorpions:P).
I don't get the use of a station that changes a ship. Why not building a different ship instead

The ship changing station sounds like the 'Dock to refit' idea I've heard a few times.

as far as the refit station goes I had a few different ways to implement it:
One idea I had would be to allow changing the special weapon of an individual ship so if you want an Akira with the intrepid's tricobalt ability you could switch it out.
Another Idea would be to take ships that have been captured to the refit staion to activate its special ability.
I have a few other ideas but they are a lil more complicated. hope that clarifies a bit though
Edit: Also let me elaborate on the flagship thing, the idea is that you start only with your Avatar's ship and as he levels different things are unlocked. Also I was thinking it would cool if random ships warped in as rank goes up (sorta like the player gets a bigger squad as he obtains rank.

Hmm, exchanging special weapons would be really hard to balance, since every vessel in FO serves a specific role and has its counters. If you can play around with specials that could get really nasty. Imagine a Sabre spam with proximity or tricobalt torpedoes

The idea with special weapons for boarded ships is a more interesting one. The Borg could use sth like that since boarding abilities for the other races are quite restricted. You very rarely board ships and if you do you wouldn't build a station to activate a special for one or to 2ships

As I said, a flagship idea has been brought up several times. In FO you actually create your own flagship by promoting them to veteran. I like it the way it is. The Devs also pointed out they don't want to have flagships, if I'm not mistaken.

We talked about sharing special weapons before and it got us the nebulas (weapons pod) special ability.
