I know I had a similar idea to this before and don't know if anyone mentioned it but I LOVE the idea of era-based ships, so how about age advancement? Any RON or RON T&P players will know this one, maybe a type of skirmish where you start off way back in trek history, probably around nx class ships, not many types of ships available but get enough minerals together and you can advance to the next age, possible around Kirk's time or just before (Daedalus & Horizon Class) then Kirk's time and so on and so forth, each age costing more minerals and certain types of 'technological advancement'. Probably not an idea till 6.0 but gives the FO crew plenty of time to think till then
Also on the RON idea with a bit of BOTF thrown in how about a map based mission (Conquer the Galxay scenario) where you have the galaxy or at least the Alpha/Beta quadrants, and each battle you win you take over an area of space, some could be NPC areas the rest will be controlled by the other races and you choose where to fight next. Ok, I know crazy idea, not even sure where you get the source from unless you ripped a copy of RON to pieces and took it from there but I can dream can't I???

so, no, we are not planning to do something like age of empires in armada. i have seen other mods with the idea of having first old era vessels and later tng and beyond. from what i have heard these mods have not gotton well responces and i personally don't like the idea especially as it draws far away from trek realism having great technological jumps developed within one mp game.
For conquer the galaxy, something like that is planned for the later tournament mode as special scenario where some players are fed and others for example borg fighting their way to earth or something similar on theme based maps.

An interesting idea but it should'nt be included in this mod, maybe another so not to radically change FO.

personaly i dislike this idea, as doca stated, it takes the realism out of the game!
but as we all know even in star trek ds9 there are older ships, so i think that there should be a number of cheap smaller and older ships avalable in the game(especially fed side)i belive, that in the map editor there is such a ship, and i like it(i like it alot)and i think that the player should be able to build that ship as well

The Constellation class? They were using even older ones then that. As I recall all the Constellation classes have been decommisioned or mothballed for a rainy day.

Or being used for battle simulations
(USS Hathaway - Peak Performance) although that was destroyed so i guess it doesn't really count. I read somewhere that 2364-2371 Janeway served as captain of this vessel, which would tell me it is in service (as she never mentioned losing a ship under her command).
Also a lot of ships were used in the Dominion battle so they probably dug all the old ones out but as we saw Miranda Class and their variants were ripped to pieces, makeing it easy to assume that not many constellation class who saw action in the war actually lived to tell the tale

There are only like 12 Constellation classes total, not like he hundreds of Mirandas or Excelsiors. Basically when starfleet decommisions a vessel, it gets thrown out of the way just in case they need spare parts, extra warships or training vessels.

i really belive, that each rase should have small and cheap battleships(something betwen the venture and saber) so when you'r really in trouble you could use theese ships, the klingon have the k'tinga, which is relatively cheap and powerfull, and it saved me once!

i dont think that it is so good to get ships like that... cause when u really need them u dont even got the time to build enough of them anyway... well, maybe i just dont like them, but i dont think this idea is good...
and btt:
if u want to play a way through the history, try the birth of the federation mod...
PS: i really loved these lil ballships of the suliban

Older ships are cheap and fast to build, thats a reason they should be put in. You need numbers of semi-powerful ships, don't go lookin at the sovern or a cube...

i only know this mod cause i tried it before this one... you and i know(i think everyone here knows) that this is definitly one of the best mods.. and i tried a lot of them...
the idea with birth of feds cam up, so i posted that idea, cause there u go through the timelines and if ur in the lack of top rated ships u can still build ur other ones that are still cheaper but u can still improve them to kick ass... so it´s quite the same with what they, u incl., are askin here.

What do u mean one of the best, THIS IS THE BEST MOD FOR ARMADA 2, wich automatically makes it the best STAR TREK RTS EVER CREATED.
